A couple weeks ago my cat got into a fight or got stung by a wasp. His body couldn't beat the infection so yesterday I took him into the vet. The wound had gotten abscessed, and they had to do surgery. There's bands that were looped under his skin to keep the wound open and allow the puss to drain. Now my poor kitty looks like this.
After surgery
He gets the bands removed on Monday. I just wonder how long it's going to take for his hair to grow back.. I feel so bad.. |

*gasp* Whoa. Poor kitty! Hope he heals up quickly. Their fur takes a long time to grow back, probably a few months to grow fully.

Ah, geesh... My neighbors did major surgery on their cat 5 months ago, the fur just started looking normal last month, so about 3 months maybe for the coverup. Poor kitty :-(

If it's a boy cat, then he shouldn't mind too much. Boys like scars and stuff like that because it makes us look tuff!

I sure hope so! I'm going to post flyers around my apartment so people don't freak out and try and take him to the humane society or something. (Edit.. he's not allowed outside until after Monday, but it's still gonna look bad for awhile.) Right now he's walking around the apartment with his butt real low and wagging his tail all over. I think it still hurts pretty bad, but I can't give him any more meds for a few hours. He made the mistake of going under the bed and I think he rubbed his back on the frame trying to get out when he heard me looking for him.
Gonna be a long weekend.
=)

My cat had a lump on her side about 2 weeks ago. So I took her to the vet. I was really worried it might be a tumour.
Anyway, it turned out to be an abcess. The vet told me it had already ruptured (which has to happen before it can start to heal apparently). So she drained some of the fluid and said it was small enough that a course of antibiotics would kill off the infection. She's back to normal now (well, there's a shaved patch of fur on her side)
I'd say the fur will grow back in a few months. |
