What are the basic dimensions needed to set up a small home studio? I want to try my hand at portrait photography and I am needing to know:

1. How far from the background does the subject typically need to be?
2. How far away from the subject does the camera need to be?
3. Are there any other size considerations as for as light placement, etc I need to keep in mind?

Thanks,

RP

well for a start you need to have at least 10 meters long for full body portratis and 6 meters on the sides for setup. i thinking to redo all my second floor to have one

My studiofloor is 4m broad an about 10m deep. The whole room is 13x10m

I normaly place the models about 1,5 / 2 m from the background to have no shadows on the background.

For me that's enough to make fullbody portraits.
