My latest technical problem:
My 20D suddenly stopped working. I used it just fine all day Friday and then Sat. morning when I turned it on and pushed the button it just went blank. It allows me to focus pushing the button half way but when I push it the rest of the way the LCD just goes blank and nothing happens. No error message is given.
I have had it over a year, but wanted to see if there was anything I need to try before sending it in for repairs.
Any thoughts?
You'll notice if you check my other forum posts, I have had a lot of technical problems/questions, I just don't know if its me and I am just messing up all my equipment or if this stuff happens to others.
Thanks,

how many photos have been taken with the camera?
it sounds to me like a mechanical problem witht he shutter...
do the other features work such as menu, and preview and such?

Could it be a near dead battery? What if you charge the battery and try again? |

I have no idea how many photos have been taken, I've had it probably 2 years maybe 2 1/2. The menu and preview and all that works fine. I have done maybe 4 weddings with it and a few engagement shoots, took it to Honduras for a week, has to be a few thousand shots on it. I've had the sensor cleaned about a month ago.
Also, when it is turned off the red light is still blinking.
The last time I was using it, it was synced with alien bee lights.... |

I have charged all 4 of my batteries and tried them all. Also, I was using a vertical grip which I though could be the problem but have since unattached the grip and tried each battery individually before and after being fully charged..... |

The LCD screen is supposed to go blank when you press the shutter button, for what that's worth. Your camera will refuse to take a picture if it can't lock focus or in certain modes if it can't give you sufficient exposure. Try putting it on manual mode and manually focusing; will it take a picture then? Do you have a cable release? Try using that instead of the shutter button; if it works, you have isolated the problem to the shutter button itself, as opposed to the shutter assembly or whatever.

Actually when I said the LCD screen, I mean the display of settings at the top goes blank and it doesn't come back, not the display of the image screen. And it's also the meter inside the viewfinder that goes blank too. It was on manual mode when I first tried it. When I try it full auto, it first pops up the built in flash and then goes dead. It's like everything just looses power when I press the shutter release all the way. The shutter never opens.
I also just tried it with a wired remote switch, same thing.
I just changed over to manual focus on the lens and can now get the shutter to release but no image comes up and the settings display still goes dead and never comes back until I turn it off an back on again. When I turn it back on I can see old images on the card but nothing new seems to be written on the card.
