It's a publicity shot, I don't really think it matters.

It all matters....
We all know Playboy has been airbrushing for generations but we accept it because Playboy and their kind are all about fantasy anyway. But when you touch on the news..any tinkering with photos, sources, or other bits of fact is a definite NO-No. it all goes to credibility.
Touch-up for People magazine on latest Lindsay Lohan photo...O.K.
Touch-Up for latest head of one of the biggest news agencies on the planet..No-No... |

As an ex-journalist, I agree that it has certainly become an issue. BUT, reaction to a PR photo of Katie Couric isn't exactly "hard news" and the scrutinizing of this photo is more or less a "let's jump on the bandwagon" attack of CBS News by other news agencies.

Distribution was limited as it was published/released to the following (quotes from the article):
"The touched-up photo of Couric dressed in a striped business suit appears on the inside of the September issue of Watch! which is distributed at CBS stations and on American Airlines flights."
"Schwartz said the magazine has a circulation of over 400,000." |

I think all of this "touching up" is insidious and hurtful, regardless of whether it's in Playboy, People or press releases.

If we are going to bring this up then might as well bring up the heavy soft focus technique they used during Barbara Walter's old show.
Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if in the future they slapped on someone else's face during a live showing.
