I haven't really progressed at all, challenge-wise. I'm either in the high 4's or low 5's, all the time. As a photographer, I almost feel like I'm regressing. I miss a lot of shots and just don't feel like I have a creative eye anymore. |

I am not sure if my photos are getting any better, but I have learned alot. I had no clue about photography. I purchased my camera in June and have been having a blast. So far I have learned about composition, the rule of thirds, lighting.....all the basics. And PP in photoshop has been an eye opener. Love it. I know it may seem like trivial things to some of you "Great One's" out there, but for me it is camera 1st grade. Thanks to all who have viewed my portfolio and given advice/comments. I will say that I am starting to enjoy my pictures more. Score have gone up in challenges, although I am still looking for the >6 score, and I am sure it will come. |

that happens to everyone. don't worry about it. the eye will return - it always does. just take a break, and in a little while it'll come charging back, and you'll be in hte thick of it again.
well, i've managed to plummet in the last few months, by entering pics i liked, a little out of the box, but pretty good, on the whole. so, my marks are poor, but i feel my work is improving.

From the oldest to the most recent:

I just got my worst score ever with my latest entry (the skater girl) in the free study. Even the first entry (the shoes) I did as a test when joining the site got a better score. I'm not sure what to think of that lol! |

Here is a chart of my progress, based on my percentile in each challenge. As you can see by the blue line, I've been all over the place, and as you can see by the pink line, I've gone nowhere.

I've already given my answer earlier in this thread but I wanted to add to anyone who feels in a rut or even those who dont I strongly suggest joining the 30 day self portrait challenge. its very inspiring as well as helpful to the learning process.
edit to add the word DAY

I seem to be going nowhere. I'm still trying to get my first 6. From the way things are going, it will never happen. I thought I had and OK photo in ROT but the voters say it is 5.1. I wish someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. Maybe they're just boring shots. |

I don't think my picture taking skills in general have improved, however being able to produce an image liked by voters for a specific challenge has seen some improvement. My scores are gradually climbing. I was in the 4's then 5's, not I am finally seeing some 6's. |

this is my score in each challenge and running average. The average still seems to be creeping up slowly

I've been registered since January, but have only submitted to four challenges (in a row--the past four). I don't know why I waited so long--too busy, I guess. At any rate here are my observations:
-- I have improved my PS skills tremendously
-- I now realize that I do not have to enter into all challenges. If I don't feel confident that a particular photo will do well, I won't enter it. At first, it was, "I have to enter...I have to enter..." It is addicting.
-- With just three challenges complete (my fourth is still in the voting stage), it's difficult to spot a trend, although my overall average is above 5. Yippee! My immediate goal is to have a 6.0+ individual photo and to not go below a 5 for an overall average.

Mine are improving overall... I've entered 10 challenges so far, and the general trend is going up from mostly 4s to mostly 5s... Though I expect to level out at some point- likely not the top;) But, I am having a lot of fun, learning, improving my abilitites to take pictures and pp... so scores aside, I feel like my participation in DPC is a successful endeaver. |

I suck at charing, but looking at this, the bumpy road does seem to have a bit of uphill grade. :-)

If I charted my progress it would look like a Sine wave with bigger curves below the line. ;o) |

I feel that my focus has been better since I started using my prime lens more this summer - and dpc voters seem to like stuff sharp. My persistent bombs suggest that my aesthetics are still frequently out of sync with the dpc masses. And that's ok with me. |

Progress, progress? What progress? :)

2006:
After the Free Study XIII I will probably have another comparisson with a much bigger difference. :) The 2002 pic scored higher btw.

I must be a bad judge, I like the skater girl shot. I thouht it was a great candid of something you don't see everyday. |

I used to say "lense" instead of "lens" :$ |
I don't know which version of the word site, sight, to use. |
I'd be happy to cite you an example but I don't know where to look.

Then there is the work "cite" as in to quote.
Site is a location. Something sits there.
Sight is related to vision.
He cited the photo he sighted on the DP site.
I got lucky with two top tens in a row and then dropped down to middling grounds. Sometimes I just am not inspired or find anything good to shoot. Sometimes I get a shot I love but there is no category I can squeeze in into. I have gotten a bit more selective about what I enter and that will help increase my average score. In the past I might have put in a picture just to have something in the challenge or to see what kind of comments I would get on it. For me, the worst picture is the one that does not get any comments. While I like high numbers, those are more important than the final score. [/url] |

Last 14 challenge I have received a higher score then my average and have average over 6 with those challenges. So, yes I have improved.
