I think 7:30 may be too late if we want sunrise photos anywhere other than Wegmans :) Also, if we are over near the FLF or Seneca Lake wineries, then I don't think lunch back in Ithaca would be practical. But, I'm open to suggestions for an itinerary.

Here is the sunrise data:

Saturday
28 October 2006 Eastern Daylight Time

SUN
Begin civil twilight 7:05 a.m.
Sunrise 7:34 a.m.
Sun transit 12:50 p.m.
Sunset 6:05 p.m.
End civil twilight 6:33 p.m.

If we want sunrise over Cayuga, we could still meet at Wegmans around 7am and go to the Treman Marina or Stewart Park or even Taughannock Park. If we want sunrise at our backs at the Seneca Wineries, we would need to meet at Wegmans much earlier, like at 6:30 am and then head over.

As I write this, sunrise at Treman Marina sounds nice. We could just meet there at between 7 and 7:30 and shoot for a while, then head up to the FLF or wineries from there.

I wanted to take some grape photos last year but didn't get to it so that may be fun. We may need to ask if it's okay before 10 photogs descend upon the vineyards with tripods in hand. Wine tasting is not anything I'm interested in so I'd probably bail for that but I'll be driving seperately anyway.

As for lunch, there are plenty of wineries that offer lunches, but just remember that the wineries get pretty busy on the weekends. I don't know if there would be a wait or not. Prices and meals vary. There's plenty of places to eat in town (Watkins Glen) as well.

I will plan to meet when you get over this way. I'd like to sleep in and Ithaca is the opposite way for me. :-)

Bump.

We have a few non-DPC'ers interested in going as well so if ya'll could decide on a meeting time and place that would be great. Then I'll email and tell the others. :-)

Does the marina at sunrise interest anyone? I'm certainly not married to the idea so please speak up if you have any other ideas?

I'm also wondering given the new "Vertical Landscape" challenge if anyone is interested in going back to Taughannock? I know we've all shot that to death but you have to admit it was made for this challenge! We could always hit this on the way back to town from FLF if that's where we end up.

Here's a proposed agenda -- please feel free to comment as I'm only posting this as a starting point:

7:00 - 8:00 -- meet and shoot at Treman Marine Park
8:00 - 8:45 -- carpool over to vineyards on east side of Seneca (Jen, maybe we could meet you at Wagners parking lot?)
8:45 - 11:00 -- shoot roadside vineyards and maybe some wineries
11:00 - 12:00 -- get lunch at one of the wineries
12:00 - 12:30 -- drive over to some part of Finger Lakes Forest (Jen could maybe offer a suggestion as to where?)
12:30 - 3:00 -- explore and shoot Finger Lakes Forest
3:00 - 3:30 -- drive to Taughannock
3:30 - 5:00 -- shoot Taughannock
5:00 - 5:15 -- return to Treman Marine Park

That's what I love about you ;)

BTW, I'm planning on doing this rain or shine (or snow).

Looks great to me! I'm in for sure. Although there's a 70% chance of rain right now...hopefully that will change!

Sure, we can meet at Wagners and I can show you a few places in the FLNF....but, if it rains I won't be goin'. Sorry guys!

Jen, you're not playing "Kodachrome" for mood music, are you?

....all the world's a sunny day, oh, yeah....
;-)

Tomorrow's Forecast:

A steady rain in the morning. Showers continuing in the afternoon. High near 45F. SE winds shifting to WSW at 15 to 25 mph. Rainfall may reach one inch.

This will be fun! So make sure you dress appropriately.

I'd like to get a final show of hands for who is still in for this. So far I have the following as committed rain or shine:

Me, KaDi, OdysseyF22

ButterflySis is undoubtedly a no given the forecast (I can't really blame her, but it's fun to rib her about it).

Vikas, are you in?

Jen, you also said there were others interested. Are they hardy (or foolhardy) enough to show up in this weather?

Oh, and I propose we have lunch here: The Ginny Lee Cafe at Wagners Winery

Yes I am in!

Which one is the Treeman Marine though? Is it the one next to the Boat Yard Grill?

Glad you're coming! The park is a bit beyond the Boat Yard Grill. Continue North on 89 past the ice rink and the entrance is just before the Hangar Theatre. Here's a map:

I can't go. My wife's coming in tonight and will be around until Sunday. I think she'd shoot (not with a camera) me if I were to abandon her for taking pictures. Sorry guys. Have fun though.

Looks good to me!!
I've never shot in the rain before, always been too terrified to. You guys will have to give me some pointers!

I think so too! :-)

Heavy rain and strong winds make for horizontal rain...which makes for wet equipment. Hope you have insurance. :-)

I'll see what's going on tomorrow. Maybe I'll give eqsite a call and at least meet you for lunch. No promises though.

Good luck!

Looks like there will be a sale on used, slightly damaged and waterlogged equipment in the fingerlakes region soon.

;)

Have fun and try to stay dry! Maybe you should plan an indoor venue as an alternative.

Geeze, no faith! I've got a Ziplock, I'm cool. Haha, more likely if it's raining that hard, my camera will stay in the bag and I'll just enjoy the scenery.

And then there's always the old open-the-trunk-and-shoot-from-in-there trick.
