I personally like Hoya filters. They are 'thin' compared to some of the others i have use... not thin in the glass, but thin in the ring around the glass. This can be a nice feature if you want to stack various filters without having to worry about vignetting in your photo.

On my film SLR, I have Tiffen filters and have had pretty good luck with them.

Filters: I have Hoya, Tiffen, and Cokin. Happy with all of them.

I use Hoya filters and really like them. I've used Tiffen before and liked them too.

For filters try B&W and Tiffen. You won't find many 3rd parties making filters AND lenses - best lenses usually are the top of the line manufacturer range.
