Yeah...for whatever reason this tickled my brain today.

Anyone else have similar thoughts? It just seems like some people who submitted, and some who are leaving comments, just don't "get" Gary Larson...

I'm at a 6.1, by the way, so I'm not complaining... just making an observation :)

In my opinion, a tribute should be done "in the style of", making an exact copy is plagiarism. Obviously, I either missed the mark, or people are voting me down for not copying an exact cartoon. I've only received one comment and it only dealt with my processing.

edit to add: This is only my OWN opinion. I didn't vote anyone down for it.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I went for the photographic equivalent of an exact copy of a particular comic and I'm getting slammed, one comment indicating that the model doesn't have the right expression when it's precisely the same expression (or lack thereof) as in the comic. I'll never win. :P

If all you did was recreate an existing far side, then I gave you a 5, 6s or 7s if your set-up was particularly elaborate. My high scores were for people who did something original (if you fooled me with a far side I don't know about, then you win). The only votes lower than 5 were a handful of 4s I gave to the ones who didn't pull off the joke, or I just didn't get it (and 1 or 2 extremely simplistic and clumsy far side reenactments).

Why vote people down for recreations? In a tribute challenge, that seems rather silly. When artists put together a tribute album, they take the honoree's songs and perform them - how is this really any different?

Yep, and votes on 'A Single Tree' and 'Geometry' have barely budged all day. :P

I made an "exact reacreation" (not that exact, not the way I planed it, not the right model... but wanted to enter the challenge) and I am doing mediocre... as always... I havent found the way to the DPC "wow" factor ...yet
09/15/2006 03:16:58 PM · #87
I didn't enter, but had fun voting! My voting average for this challenge will easily be 2+ higher than I normally do, just for creativity alone.

Well done!

I'm bummed about my score, frankly. I really thought it would do quite a bit better, and I'm not sure why it isn't. Hanging right around 6.0, which is unlikely to be much past middle of the pack in this challenge :-(

your score scared them. the 7+ scores don't normally post in the threads and I doubt that there are many higher than you.

Thats kind of funny. I figure I wont even come close to breaking into top ten with this score. THere are some strong hilarious shots out there.

I figure that 10th place will be about 6.7 or so. crystal finished 10th with 6.69 in the scene it challenge and I figure this will be about the same pattern. several good shots in weach challenge and not many to vote on so there will be lots of votes.

This is very discouraging to me, being that it would seem to imply that my entry is actually much worse than its paltry 5.4, a score I wouldn't be happy with under normal circumstances and which I now find even more depressing than usual. :P

... and he smites Shanksware for his un-orignal composition.

How's this for discouraging? I'm pretty sure I have the brown wrapped up here. But, thanks baggie for the great comment and the high score (I'm sure you're the only one I'm going to get!).
