I just worked out that I am carrying around £2500 worth of gear when I go out shooting, so have decided it might be an idea to get some insurance.
Anyone rcommend any good companies in the UK that offer cover for photographic gear?

I have insurance with More Than...specify the amount of individual items and I am sure they can help...in fact I'm More Than sure!!
Seriously, they are pretty damn good.
