Hello,

Yesterday my D70 locked up after a shot. I hit the shutter set on 1/60 and it sounded like the mirror went up but never did come down. The card was reading "format". I turned the cam off and on with no results.
I took the battery out and this fixed the problem.

Any ideas? Is this going to happen again?

this sounds like what happened to me a few years ago. Do you have the "original" D70? Ever been in to the shop?

How do you tell if you have the original?

There is a link and call number on this page down on the Right hand side "Service Advisory."
//www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1
to answer the manufacture date question

If you got it before 2005 (or it was originally sold) then the BGLOD could be a problem. They fessed up to the problem after months of it happening and a threat for a lawsuit. I'd check the call number above link.

Thanks for all the info, however, I can't see in the EXif data where it says "maker notice".

I don't think mine is one of the original because I purchased it in April of 2005. Most of the reports on the blinking light say these were pre 2005. Now this is not to say that mine did not sit of a shelf for 2 years !

Anyway...I dug out my reciept and 5 year extended warranty that I purchased for 100 bucks. It may come in handy!
