There are a lot of discussions about song lyrics and the DPC challenges related to them on the forums. I propose, just like the 30 day challenges (although, maybe a little shorter) that we have a song lyrics challenge. Nothing DPC related, just a side challenge. Anyone up for this?
Let's say:
Duration: 15 Days
Guidelines: Choose 15 different songs/lyrics and base a photo on each |

I like the idea...but that's a lot of tough challenges. I could think of maybe one or 2 songs that I could do. Also, there's the macro challenge going on the pet portrait challenge, and WPL starting soon.

Great work!
I'm gonna start this at the beginning of November... on the 1st... anyone who's in PM me, I'll add you to a list and PM you when we're ready to begin. We'll decide the rules before then. Even if I'm on my own I'm still gonna try this.
We'll see. |

That's crazy man, I was thinking the same exact thing as the SPAD came to an end.
Marco and Pet SPs I'm not doing as there is not a lot of out of the box thinking required; but a lyric challenge and the photog would have to interpret a line and capture it to what they beleive it should represent.
I already had thoughts for lyrics from:
Green Day: Blvd of broken Dreams
ton of subjects in these two
Don McCleam: American Pie (this one DPC could do a weekly, and the results would be quite interesting)
Arlo Guthrie: Alice's Restaurant
Lita Ford: Kiss me deadly and Lita/Ozzy: Close My Eyes Forever
Terry Jacks: Seasons in Sun
Three Days Grace: The Animal I have become
There is so much material available...

Great idea, but one that I fear might prove difficult due to such factors as age, languages and socio/economic conditions.
I happen to really like songs like La Boheme, L'été indien, Daddy's Little Man, and If I could... all of which would mean little if anything to others. By the same token, there are oodles of groups out there that my daughter loves that, well... I find offensive at best.
While it is true that a good photo is still a good photo, it does help in instance like this one if the image can be linked to something we know and understand.
Just a thought.

Ray | A song is a song and a photo is a photo. I think as long as you put the line and titlein the notes, it should all be good. This stuff is done for fun and learning and a little comraderie.

Ray, a great deal of my collection is in Japanese which I happen to speak, but I'm willing to explain my choices of lyric/title in the comments box, which as you point out is very important to a challenge like this. The point is, my collection contains Pachelbel, Mozart, Bachelor Girl, Enya, In Flames and Cradle of Filth...
I think this does present quite a challenge to all of us in showing what a song means to us.
edit: cryingdragon is obviously a quicker typist than I.

Domo arigato gozaimasu, shalrath...
very much appreciated, and both you and cryingdragon are absolutely right. Cradle of filth huh??? ... could be use the name of the band for our image??? :O) That was (maybe still is) one of my daughter's favorite groups... I recall driving her and her friends to Montreal to see that group... not bad actually.

Go ahead! It'd be great to have you on board... and with your current Blue October interest you'd produce some great images, as you did in the last challenge. |

Exactly, I don't think we are trying to get anyone to like or understand the music that each of us listen to just portray a small portion of the some that may mean something to us.
Who knows, done right, we may expose others to the different musical genres and find that all music says the same thing but in a different manner.
Ray, there must be lots of one liners from the songs you listen to, that represented with a photo, would draw me in without knowing the entire story.
The lyric can be simple or complex.
In my examples below, the song Kiss Me Deadly has the prominant line "It ain't no Big Thing" could be as simple as a Macro. Seasons in the Sun has the line "Hello my friend it's Hard to die, When all the birds are singing in the sky" could be a full on tragedy story type shot.
I think the jist of the challenge is really just that the one liner we choose is the fuel for creativity. The outcome will vary in meaning and delivery.

This will be an "anything goes" challenge... no rules (as cryingdragon pointed out in a PM). Feel free to add text, create digital art, include people, soil, trees... whatever symbolises your interpretation of the song you're trying to convey. |

I don't really feel like shooting my least favorite subject in the world yet again. This is album art, anything else, blah blah...at least that's how I'm looking at it.
