sorry for the lack of linky , I'm browsing with a mobile..

Yes you can have 2. I would do one post for the "Winning OOBIE and YAPPIE" awards.

Team Suck is now accepting nominations for the YAPPIE sucker. This is given to a commentor for either a particular comment or a history of great comments.

Please review the recent Dirt, For Sale, and Pet Portrait II results. If you have ideas for someone who should get a YAPPIE, please post your suggestions in this thread. It's helpful to have a blurb or even a poem about why you are making the nomination.

Current nominees are lucidlotus macrothing levyj413 and CNovack

Please do not nominate yourself.

I like this comment from PhotoInterest. It's a good example of engaging with a photo and trying to make it work, even if ultimately my photo didn't succeed:

Wow, I've seen my cats like that too! *grin* This really captures this furbaby's emotions! I know this is an action shot and therefore, hard to focus properly, but, since it is out of focus, perhaps, having cropped it down to just the face??? Might have put more focus on the cat's emotions and taken away from the blur???

in my last three entry my favourite comments were by "posthumous" , always out of the box comments.

Current nominees are lucidlotus macrothing levyj413 CNovack and PhotoInterest

Any more YAPPIE nominees?

We all need to give "hugs" to posthumous for favorite comments - we would not want him to suffer sucker overdose.

Team Minus is collecting nominations for Yappies. Here's your chance to give a nod to someone who has given you a great comment or many great comments. That lucky someone could win one of these:

I thought this was a thoughtful comment that provided me with a very good theory about why I didn't score higher, which I hadn't considered:

Comment by JuliBoc:
This is so brown it looks like it has a sepia tint. As a matter of fact, I think I gave it a 5 because of that. I think the sepia shots were pretty poor efforts for the brown challenge. Sorry I lumped yours in with that category. I think these natural brown are very nice, and I should have realized from the blue lens on the camera that it wasn't a tint.

Quotes: "Really enjoying the sharpness and bokeh in this photo. Nicely done in a tough lighting environment. Good luck in the challenge."

"This is one of those photos that if you entered it in some other contest (outside of DPC) it would probably do quite well (depending on the theme of course).

I gave out three 9's for this challenge and this was one of them.

Perhaps because I wasn't that tuned into Pink Floyd (have 'The Wall' at home, but haven't listened to it in MANY years) I took this photo at face value as fitting the challenge and a Pink Floyd theme. Seems that many others didn't connect with it for this challenge. If the challenge was 'Seed', 'Weed', or even 'Bokeh' it probably would have scored near the top.

Reminds a little of the type of photo that ursula might take. Took a peek at your 'favorites' and noticed she wasn't on your list. Check out some of her work, if you like taking the kind of photo that you've entered in this challenge, you'll find some photos of interest in her portfolio.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and again, congratulate you on a fine photograph - I enjoyed it. Take care."

For the Yappie. Larus.
I received some great comments last week, but, Larus was a little more concise, and not only on one, but 2 of my entries.

despite the fact that larus has won everything and its dog, i second the nomincation for larus. he's been leaving a lot of concise and well considered comments all over the place, in the admirable aim of lowering his comments given/received disparity. i should do the same.

Larus won this last week.

I'd like to nominate sevilduvarci for a Lifetime Yappie award. I don't believe she reads the forums much if at all - instead she seems to spend a whole lot of time commenting on a whole lot of pictures. She does not limit herself to challenge entries but comments on portfolio entries a great deal. In short, she lets you know that at least one of the "views" on a portfolio entry was a thoughtful and considered one.
01/19/2007 12:39:52 AM · #50
OOh good idea! I second that - sevilduvarci is terrific!
