Most of my portfolio is of nature and landscapes. I wanted to try something new for me so I set out to do some portraits a couple of weeks ago.
My subjects (models) are two beautiful young ladies that used to be neighbors and babysitters for me. I've watched them grow up over the last 8 years. We took off to a local park for some pictures. Here are some of the ones I got.
I would appreciate any comments or critiques as I am not as comfortable doing portraits.
Thanks,

Anybody out there, or are they that bad?

I'll definitely come back later and comment on them individually, but real quick, I have to say that for someone out of their comfort-zone, these look really good!

Agreed. The first is my favourite; the light is great; though the shadows look a bit hardlined, it doesn't detract for me. Her face is perfectly lit in my opinion. All their expressions are very open, and they obviously trust you very much. It's a great series. |

I left some comments. I hope they don't come off as "overly critical" of the images. Rather, I am trying to be helpful by pointing out what could be done differently to improve the images.
Ever photo shoot I go on, I learn something new and I always try to improve on things for the next one. These comments are, of course, "my opinion" and may vary from photographer to photographer. But hopefully you'll find them helpful.

dwterry, thanks for the comments. That was exactly what I was looking for. On the one picture where they look like two individuals, it's because they are sisters and generally didn't want to stand all that close to each other. I got a couple of candid shots between poses and the expressions are priceless.
Once again, thanks for the comments. I didn't even notice some of the things you mentioned.
