Hey everyone,
what is the difference between the nikkor 105mm 2.8 micro, and the nikkor 105mm 2.8d micro lenses. Also is $250 a good price for the 105mm 2.8 micro.
thanks to all,
ryand

DO you mean the 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR and the 105mm f/2.8D?

Well, the VR mostly.

looking at the links that Steve provided $250 seems to be TOO good. why is it so low?more to the point do you know or trust the person you would buy it from?

If you talking about one with manual focus or used, then $250 might be a good price. I've not shopped around for used on that lens.

Neither are "For Digital" or not for digital. The D version gives you the ability to use matrix metering amoungst other things (sorry, been a while since I've compared them).

It sounds like you are being offered an AIS or similar version (again, sorry been a while).

Do yourself a favor and google the lense and I'm sure you'll find all the answers you need.

Not at all correct.

Basically, VR means Vibration Reduction. Sharper images at lower shutter speeds.

D means Distanct information. Some people think this is fairly useless.

DX means the lens is formatted for digital cameras.

Look here for more information: //www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikortek.htm

Edit: And you don't need D type lenses to use Matrix Metering. I use Matrix Metering quite effectively with my 60mm f/2.8 Micro (non-D) all the time.

Price sounds too good. I'm trying to sell one here for $530, and I think that's extremely cheap for an almost-new prime macro lens.

so does this mean its not auto exposure??

You must not have read his initial post too well. It's NOT a NEW 105 2.8. It's an older AIS type.

Perhaps before your time??? ;-)

The price sounds right to me if it is an older AI or AIS lens.

Find out exactly what 105 lens it is, then have a read here:

No, well, umm. I forget.

Wait, I think the D200 and D2x will support them, possibly the D70, but I'm thinking that the D50 doesn't play nice.

Okay, yeah, scratch the D70 or 50. Wonder if they included it on the D80... hmmmm.

However, if you are really considering it for macro work, you may want to consider it anyway. You will find that auto-focus is nearly useless when working in such tight spaces.
