Got a big bump on rollover. go-go vote scrubber for once. Finished at a whopping 5.1, but at least it tipped.

No camera voters sunk my battleship.

I hit 5-something during voting but for the end of voting I stayed at a 4.95ish. So I got a bump too, which is great. Just had been hoping for another 5 entry!

12th place! I totally thought I had top 5 from what everyone was posting, but the score dropped yesterday! damn. 12th is nice though =) Atleast I know my image quality and appeal is going up... I've had some new personal bests these past few weeks

Oh geez. I just looked at my vote breakdown. The number of 3-and-below votes I got is rather discouraging, especially the 1s and 2s.

Someone comment on my shot and help my ego..! :-)

25th place, cool.

I've been wondering this since submitting my entry. Did I choose the right image? The alternate grew on me the more I looked at it but there is little wow factor for a quick viewing. I like that it looked almost skeletally white.

I decided early on I didn't give much of a crap about what the final score would be (which was 4.7273 and 107th place). The score pales in comparison to the comments I got and THAT average score was 6.7 something. It was very encouraging to know that there was a handful of people out there who got it, even if it wasn't a DPC friendly image, which frankly I knew going into it. Thanks, commenters!

Damn, that is close. If only I'd gotten to your photo during voting and given it a six ;)

Sadly I got distracted by a cup of tea or something, so didn't finish voting on all the Neons.

I really appreciate these two pictures which tried a little harder that just a nice picture of a neon sign and sort of sum up my disappointment with this site (at times because I do thoroughly enjoy it!). Freakishly or not so as the case may be they were my top two and finished 106th and 107th place respectively. No disrespect to the winning pictures they too were great shots but when I think neon I think sleezy, tacky streets (maybe I just have a dirty mind!) and these two pictures screamed such narrative! A nicely exposed picture with perfect DOF and tack sharpness is all very well but comes well behind an evocative picture that actually holds meaning. There were lots of nicely exposed sharp signs too!

I think the voters here hand out way too many ultra-low votes, but that's just typical of the voters here. Don't let the bozos get you down. It's more important that you are happy with your photo. If you achieved what you set out to, then you should be satisfied.

Sorry, but there's way too many over-inflated egos around here already.

You're young and beautiful, and that's way better than being an ego. What more do you need? ;D

Yeah. I actually am 110% happy with it, which makes me feel great. I am also proud of the fact that I only had to adjust saturation in post (I like it when I can get what I want mostly in-camera).

Hehe, if you knew me in real life you would know that there is pretty much no chance at all that my ego would ever get over-inflated.

*giggle* Next time I get a low score I will say "HAHA I am young and beautiful so THERE!!" LOL.

I like the alternate too, maybe even better. But I think you made the right choice for the challenge, as the one you submitted just "feels" more glowy and neonish.

how about this one

instead of

which one do you like best?
11/15/2006 11:24:04 PM · #23
I *definitely* prefer the one you submitted.

p.s. Thanks to the recent commenters on my entry! :-)

The both of you below I think the one you submitted was the right choice. Now I'm wondering though....
Should I have submitted this one?

Instead of this one?

Oh and by the way how do I get one of them little ribbons for getting no comments during a challenge?..... I got none on this one.
and it got a 4.9651 placing 92/124 at 26%. There were 2 ones but there were 3 tens. I'd like to know what was good and what was bad if anyone would like to help me out please.

Sheryll,

I tend to like the unsubmitted photo better. Love Bob Marley but the photo looked a little, for lack of a better word, "messy" to me. Besides, the fact that you photographed another existing photo and that it comprised the majority of the frame probably contributed to a good number of the low scores you received. The other photo would not have suffered such.
