I rarely vote in challenges where I'm not entered. As someone said in that other thread, it didn't engage me enough to enter, so I'm not that interested in voting on hundreds of images on that theme.
On the other hand, I haven't been voting much at all, which will change beginning tonight.
Now, on a different topic, I thought I'd post something to encourage everyone as we learn our editing tools. I just went back and re-edited one of my favorite pictures from my Alps trip, and I think it looks MUCH better. :)
Original edit:
Re-edited 5 months later:
I like the sky's color more, I cloned out the grass tops that were distracting, and I improved the contrast in the snow fields so they're not just masses of white. I also cropped it to an 8x10 ratio to make prints, which has the nice benefit of making the details larger.
I'm entering this and a couple of others in this contest.

Hi Team Suck, I know I'm fairly new to the scene, but I felt out of sync with such a boring name ... so instead of my initials (JMI1) I'm now JerseyGenie. Didn't want anyone to be too confused. The official listing of Team Entropy should probably incorporate this change. Talk soon.

Regarding voting in challenges in which you participate, I do vote. I count on myself being adult enough to vote the truly outstanding photos high and the mediocre ones not quite so high.
It also helps that I vote early on (not really knowing how my photo is going to do). But I sure hope that I'd be responsible enough not to be swayed.
I also try to vote for every challenge whether in it or not. I try to vote with my gut and then after I've voted on every entry, I go back and assess whether I think some should be adjusted upward or downward. Face it, a great photo (meeting challenge requirements and being compelling) is a great photo and should be rewarded as such.

I agree, the new edit is superior. |

I always vote in the challenges that I enter. I think that if a person is that concerned about their ability to vote fairly, then what does that say about their integrity. I think I'm man enough to know that a lot of my pictures suck (hence the fact that I joined team suck) and many of the other people's images are better than mine.
When I,m currently at 4.7 in free study and most of the scores that I give out are between 5-6. I think I'm being very fair. If everyone didn't vote in their own challenges, then who would do the voting?
I didn't mean to start a firestorm here. I just thought it made a lot of sense to me. |

No firestorm here :-) However, I think it can also say something for a person's integrity if he/she wants to ensure that emotional investment in a challenge will not subconsciously alter results. I would never purposely go into a challenge and say, "my votes are low (or high) and therefore I'm going to battleship the great photos!" However, if I'm really bummed about how a picture is doing, I don't want my overall state of mind to affect my voting.
On another topic, levyj413 I think your edited photo of "buddies" is indeed much stronger. In fact, I think it's a beautiful photo and has a strong chance in contest. Good luck!
Edit 'cause I entered Jeff's username wrong initially

I make myself vote in challenges I enter because I feel that it's part of the obligation I incur by taking advantage of the sevice of having mine judged and commented upon.
I also try to vote for as many entries as I can in each challenge I enter, and comment on most, if not all of the votes I cast.
That also gives me a pretty good suck index for where I'll be at the end! 8>)

Well I'm number 100 in Procrastination. I put in a truely sucky photo since I procrastinated so long I couldn't come up with anything better. But, at least I'll have something to look at on the left hand side. |

How d'ya know what number your entry is? Or do you just look right after you enter and figure that unless you're unlucky, nobody else submitted one for that at the same time?
I guess I'm 106 using that index. I'm really happy with the pic, the title sort of has to carry the challenge, but I'm hoping the entry's OOB enough to slide on through okay.
Time and trolls will tell! 8>)

That's pretty much it. There were 99, then when I entered it went to 100. LOL. |

Hey.....
Nobody sent me the memo yet......what is expected of me as a Team Sck member?
Do I have to enter a certain number of challenges or anything like that or is the worse grammar clause preempt that?

You should enter at least one per week, if you can enter more, do so. Your team needs at least 3 or maybe it's four people to participate each week to score. |

And do I get booted if I screw up and accidentally get a wildly high 6 or something?????

Team Suck is a beautiful place, so no booting for high scores. We have the "momentary lack of suckage" award for the highest scorer each week. That person's punishment is to have to comment on everyone else's entries from Team Suck. |

I make a point to vote in every challenge I enter. I give high votes to pictures I like and low or middle votes to pictures I don't like. The fact that I have a picture in the challenge has nothing to do with it. My highest scores are relative, so I will always give at least one 10 in a challenge for the best photo, unless, and this has only happened once or twice, the entries really suck (no offense).
free study is voted on and I probably commented as much as I'm going to for that challenge.

Tonight's voters have been harsh. My FS is falling at an alarming rate! Hopefully the vote scrubber can fix this. |

thanks, yes, feeling much better. i have a feeling it may have been norwalk. it's been going around.
well, i've submitted the not funny pic to procrastination. why do i keep subjecting everyone to my dark vision? o well.
all those who didn't vote on 20% of the challenge are scrubbed away.
i have themost amazing comments on my 12 days, with lots of stated 10s yet the score's quite a bit lower than the ones posted on the 12 days score tally thread. wah.... ;-( ;-p

What's the vote scrubber? |
It is software in the program that checks for unusual voting patterns and removes those scores. If someone gave all 1's just to be mean, the scrubber would remove them.
I sure hope it helps me. I have fallen from 6.5 to 6.3 in two days. This challenge doesn't end until tuesday night so I still have two more days to hang on. |

I've finished voting in free study and Centered, and 12 days of Christmas. That is a lot of voting!
I sure hope the next challenges coming up are a little better than Procrastination, BW Portrait, and Song Titles. I don't have a shot for any of them yet. |
