To sum up both pieces of the vote scrubber, it:
1) Removes the votes of everyone who didn't vote on at least 20% of the entries in a given challenge. Comments remain, but not votes. This is common, I believe.
2) Removes votes from people who vote in odd patterns. This is rare, I believe.
I regularly get a 0.03-0.05 bump and lose about 10 votes. Rarely my score will go down a bit.
You can see the effect by updating your scores just before midnight, leaving that window alone, and then checking the number of votes in a new window after rollover.

I sure hope the next challenges coming up are a little better than Procrastination, BW Portrait, and Song Titles. I don't have a shot for any of them yet. |
Okay.....what am I missing?
I went to submit a pic to Song Titles and it said I couldn't *because* I have an entry in B&W Portrait.
I'm now in on Procrastination, B&W, and Best of 2006.
Now I gotta do a whole bunch of voting!

What's the vote scrubber? |
It is software in the program that checks for unusual voting patterns and removes those scores. If someone gave all 1's just to be mean, the scrubber would remove them.
I sure hope it helps me. I have fallen from 6.5 to 6.3 in two days. This challenge doesn't end until tuesday night so I still have two more days to hang on. |
Bob, I'll bet you hang on. Typically (in my limited experience, at least) there's a voter surge at the end that bumps things up a tad. I often go through challenges I've voted and bump up a few that were on the line in my mind or I noticed something new in the photo that merited a higher score. I just did that with fences, actually.
Oh, and bmartuch I hope you'll put one in for procrastionation or songs! I love it when Team Suck enters these challenges just screaming for OOB stuff, as I think we all tend to appreciate it.

Well, they're full of alcohol, which, uh, kills microbes, right? ;)
Yippee! New 3rd personal best. My free study hung onto 6.5.
I seem to have found a knack for shooting Washington's architecture at night. I've always thought this city was prettier at night anyway. Prior to 9/11, I flew many sightseeing flights over and around downtown (I'm a private pilot). If you're interested, here's a collection of several recent shots from the ground.

Amsuingly, melethia and I finished exactly next door to each other in the free study. Well, it amused me anyhow.
Congrats to everyone on their placings, whereever they may be.
I, it seems, am getting quite a thing for cat photos, my top three are photos of pussies, so to speak.

You didn't do too badly yourself, a pretty good placing in the free study. |

Congrats!! It'll stay above 6, I'm fairly certain, as it's a high 6 right now. Way to go!
My score, on the other hand, pretty much sucks. I'm OK with that. |

My FS score never recovered. I think I got all 5 three's in the last half of the day yesterday. I went from a 5.51 to 5.46. Oh well, I still love the picture. At least one person liked it enough to give me a 10, so mission accomplished.
I'm expecting this to go down...

I'm so happy!
I feel like I finally have a clue! My mentor dude gave me this one tip that has made all the difference, and all of a sudden, my confidence level is way up, and so is my enthusiasm.
I'm still at 6.7273 eight hours after it rolled up for voting, and even if it plummets, I have the gratitude of knowing that I not only have been scoring over a 6, but over 6.5!
I've already realized two of my 2007 goals, well, not 'til voting closes, of an over 6 finish, and a place on a team.
What a great Monday so far!
My centered remains stable at the 5.2 it's been for the last four or five days, so at least it'll be one of my better finishes, as much as that sucks.....8>)
That'll knock another off my top four on my profile, so that's growth!
Are we having fun yet?

So.....anybody here believe in predestination, fate, karma, or any other kind of ordered plans?
I look for a place on a team, end up on Team Entropy, which I never knew existed, and Saturday, a friend of mine hooks me up with a forum/mailing list that he thinks I'll like; I thought I'd give y'all the description first, then the name.....
"Christopher Locke and his twisted nemesis RageBoy stream their conjoint consciousness into an unsuspecting communications ether as part of an alien plot to find true love and happiness by tinkering with the messenger RNA of The American Dream."
And that name?????
Entropy Gradient Reversals!
What else?
Is that perfect or what?

Yeah, right!
In order to do that I'd have to admit that I was too stupid to know what that little exposure scale in the viewfinder was and how it tells me how to achieve the right exposure settings when I have the camera in manual mode.
And how after 25+ years, I finally understand the relationship of DOF, aperture, and shutter speed as it applies to taking pictures.
And that now I actually take my camera off automatic mode and get the shots I want and they actually come out all right *and* as I intended.
So, no, I'm not going to share any of that!
See?
I really *do* suck at this stuff!
It's all been dumb luck and automatic exposure up 'til now.
Kinda dashes your hopes for any kind of epiphany, huh?......8>)

Go Team Suck! There were some great photos from the team for free study and twelve days. My hat goes off to chaimelle and griz210 for actually finding six geese and seven swans, respectively.
A moment to recognize levyj413 for finishing in the top 30 in free study. Quite an accomplishment!
NikonJeb hope your score hangs up there! Great job! |

jeb, great synchronicity!
ok, for all who want to learn more about photo, i've started a thread (again, the last one died the death, i'm trying with a catchier title this time), to try to get a place in the forum for discussion of photo history as a fine art etc.
if you go here, see if you like the idea, then add you two cents, amybe the sc will notice, and, if they can, do something...
