WOW...I think there's some serious trolling going down.
My image should not be getting such low votes...although I do see where DPCers might not love a few things.

| Remember that the day after voting starts is usually the low point for scores. I'm doing OK (above my average), but considering what I had to go through this time it's amazing that I even HAVE an entry. |

I went the opposite direction and added noise to my image to make it seem more like a classic portrait, bad bad move.. I really cant be sure why mine is doing so awfully.
The face is pleasent to look at (shallow I know, but this IS DPChallenge).
Its not a standard desaturation. A lot of thought went into conversion, contrast etc.
The lighting is really nice.
Cropping is good..
BUT, I did add noise..
I no way expected to ribbon, but I was hoping for an above 6 score, not a below 5. These voters kill me... |

To be perfectly honest.... I do not want to deal with a failed B&W portrait staring back at me each time I log on. Anything else if fine... but not this challenge. I already know what I need to know :-)

it depends on the way you add noise. If you just clicked the filter 'add noise' and added it to the whole photo it sometimes does the photo no good. If you apply it with care in a new layer and a few more tricks ;-) it can uplift ypur photo.

That's true - it can be tricky adding it to look somewhat like film grain. A lot of the noise filters add visible noise into the shadows, which when I've looked at really good grainy photos, they tend to have much more blocked up shadows and no visible noise/grain. Many of the digital shots I've seen with grain added end up with noisy shadows that just doesn't work as well.

| I'm left scratching my head here ... I'm using the excel spreadsheet to track my votes ... and this is what I've seen in the last 6 of them .... '6' ... '3' ... '6' ... '2' ... '6' ... '8' ... appears that voters either kinda like it or just plain ol' hate it ... |

Expert Rules? This challenge ran under Advanced Editing rules, not Expert.

I think there is a bit of sorting going on (People sorting photos into groups before assigning the final score). It is a lot easier to bump a photo up later than to bump down for most people. At least that is what I am hoping.

We are similar scores but i have no FAV. I was horrified to see my score today but now I know everyone else is in the same boat it aint so bad.LOL
