Dr. Suess
Challenge Description:
Beloved children's book author Dr. Suess is well known for his entertaining stories that had sing-song rhymes, nonsensical words, and sometimes a moral to the story. Green Eggs and Ham, Cat in the Hat, and The Sneetches & Other Stories are just some of his well recognized works. Use your photographic skills to emulate/capture Dr. Suess work.
Of course I think Advanced Editing would come into play on this challenge:-) |

Outer Mongolia and a fair few other countries do not have these books. Imagine translating Seuss.... so the challenge would be a mere US provincial backwater thing. |

My thinly-veiled point is that if they have access to the Internet, they can get to Google... and they can probably figure out what they're supposed to do. Or, if the challenge doesn't interest them, they can ignore it, or choose the other one if it's an Open challenge :) |

Is it any different than having fireworks challenges just at New Year's and July 4, for example? Or 30 second exposure? Lots of challenges are specific to one group or another. |

Dr Seuss books have been translated into 15 different languages and are available around the world.

Less available than you might imagine. As for translation availability - I have worked for 15 years in the business of international copyrights and the agenting thereof. Therefore, I do know what is available and what is not. Being available in a translation does not mean that it is selling or that it is widely known in that specific linguistic domain.
My point is that DPC is on the WWW. The WWW is international and for that reason I enjoy being here. Take away the international content or become too America-centric in subject matter and I personally would not be very interested in being here. Subject matter awareness is important.
Alan is right, Google it will reveal all. For sure. Google is an international language. Over and out.

ditto, I couldn't figure out where everyone was going to see Fireworks for this challenge...not in my neck of the woods at least. New Years never even crossed my mind..
I think it would be fun....it will give Thing 1 and Thing 2 a chance to stretch their legs.....

Was there this big a fuss about Gary Larsen? Cus I really didn't know who that was and I am in America. I think we need to get over the whole it won't fit everyone aspect. Not every theme is going to be able to fit everyone. Besides those in the non-western areas... such as the mentioned outer Mongolio have some advantages such as access the people and areas that could prove to be much more interesting on here than those of us living in the states.
Anyhow, I personally really, really like this idea. It seems like so much fun. It has the possibility to entice some really wild entries! |

| Art, I am full of a cold and feeling quite rough this evening but I have just visited your 'church' and it really made me laugh, thankyou for cheering up my miserable evening!!! I think a Dr Suess challenge sounds like great fun (for what my opinion's worth)!! |

I agree with pineapple. 4th of July I can live with, it's only once a year. I understand that it would be nice for some to have such challenges, but isn't it more fun if (mostly) everybody is able to participate?
Dr Suess? Never heard of the guy....
Oh, and Art Roflmao, comments like that are just childish.

No, definitely not... you likely won't find me in a flowers challenge, or landscapes for that matter :-)
But, I'd give Dr. Seuss a shot :-)
Edit: BTW, the challenges are about learning... I for one would not complain if a challenge topic was Asian or African in nature. Would just require a bit of research to understand the topic before I shoot.

There are 5 challenges on the front page to choose from, right now. More than enough for everyone to participate. Remember when there were only 2 challenges? How about 1 challenge?

Let's do a Dutch oriented challenge next time. that would be fun. full with windmills, tulips, cheese and clogs.
