I took this a few days after I got my first DSLR camera. I just got a 70-300mm lens and headed for the beach. I'd love some feedback on this. I know I missed the rear of the bird and left some room in the front of it to "have somewhere to go".

Hey Pete... nice shot with the new gear! It's nice & crisp, and I definitely like the motion blur on the wings. Gives it an action feel as opposed to being frozen in time.

It really would've been nice to have caught that tail end.

Now go back down to the beach & get something to blur in the background - you'll have a great entry for Motion Panning II

Welcome aboard :O)

Thanks for the nice comments! I´d love to go back to that beach, but I´m back home in Indiana... But I do love taking pics of birds and animals in nature so I might head for the park and see what I can find :-) I added a few more pics of birds I took while I was in Florida in the URL listed below,

More birds

Pete,

Are these straight out of the camera or have you already sharpened them. Great shots!!!

Bill, I used about 15-20% smart sharpen (not much) in Photoshop CS2, Saturation +10, a little level adjustments and resized. Other than that they are untouched. And thanks again!
