Funny vid! My girlfriend had a "Commode Door 64" when I was using a TI 99 4/A.

I had a Commode Door 64 and a VIC 20. Wish I still had them.

POKE 53280,0
POKE 53281,0

I had an Atari 2600 games console, and then a C64 and then an Amiga.

Ahhh.... the fond memories of waiting for 45 minutes for The Hobbit to load followed by "Tape load error"

.

If you can wait another couple of weeks, you'll be able to get a cool, slick new operating system on the PC, Windows Vista.

I've been running Vista for a few months now and Photoshop has never run better! It's fast and smooth, no hesitation, glitches, etc.

Or, if you want to legally get the benefits of both (esp. not having to re-buy software), buy a Mac and stick Windows on it. I've heard its around £150, [can be done on any of the new range I think] but you'll never have to worry about sofware compatibility, and you'll be able to always use the "superior" (whatever that means) OS for any purpose. Of course that includes Linux, which I believe Macs come with.
Best of all 3 possibilities.

Only reason I didnt go that way when I recently got a computer, aside from the money, was that I don't particularly want to be bi-lingual - I use a lot of shortcuts in windows, and everythings a tiny bit different on a Mac; really frustrates me. Its bad enough switching between windows and unix at work, but thats mainly a personal thing.

Swung by the Apple store tonight. That is one nice peice of machinery. The quality seems light years more evolved than pc. I must admit I really dug that tool/navigation bar thingy. Everything seemed so futuristic, although I couldnt figure out how to exit programs, nor could I find a webbrowser. Nobody was assiting me though. Photoshop elements seem to be nice on the apple.

I dunno man, this is gonna be a hard decision.

Choose "Quit" from the File menu or use the keyboard equivalent "command-Q" (keyboard equivalents are listed in the menus for easy reference). Apple's default web browser is Safari (it's a blue compass icon in the dock), but you can also use Firefox or several other free browsers. IE works too, but it's obsolete because Microsoft gave up development after the vastly superior Safari was introduced.

So....where can I get some Apple coupons? :)

Amazon, MacConnection and MacMall offer rebates. You can get refurbished Macs from the "Special Deals" section of the Apple store online (they carry the same warranty as new Macs). If you're a student, educator, or government employee, you can get discounts from other sections of the Apple store devoted to those markets.

I have always had a good machine, Amiga 500, 500+, Amiga 1200 etc... then i fell into the PC trap. i was here for years on end not really happy, that is until i made a major change into my Apple Imac 17" Intel Core 2 Duo, 2gb Ram and all i can say is whooo moma.

What a beast, Only reason for the small screen was the space i am working in. but the machine itself is a dream, So easy to use on an everyday basis. No major hang ups on hardware or software installs.
No crashes at all. The processor really flys. Photoshop Elements 4.0 non Universal apps really shifts. Aperture is just as good althouh i need to upgrade to 1.5

I wonder why for all these years i ever even bought a PC when i should have had a MAC all along.

No.. really i do think its that good.

I'm sure they have their reasons, they are just to high and mighty to admit they actually froze :-)

Mine never has. Neither has my dad's.

BSOD's were routine with Win2K, at least weekly, usually more often though.

do some homework..

//kb.wisc.edu/showroom/page.php?id=3045
//www.macworld.com/news/2006/02/14/pricecomparison2/index.php
//www.systemshootouts.org/shootouts/desktop/2006/0809_dt3200.html --> this one is interesting because the Mac comes with the cinema display!!!

There are numerous other articles (even an editor's choice at PCMAG) and as scalvert said you can just go to the sites and configure systems.

Also, I write this response as someone who has 5 PC desktop systems and 3 PC Laptop systems in his home... all running Windows XP (except two 2K systems)... so I'm not a Mac/Apple Geek.

that would be a great argument appart from its compairing with a Dell...

i recently upgraded my old PC for a total of approx £460 giving me an E6600 clocked to 3.1GHz with 2GB RAM on a Asus P5W DH Duluxe with a BFG7600GT OC- can't do that with a Mac (don't start with the interface, i'm happy using both)

I love my mac...I hug it every morning.

That said, I had it for about 2 months when it died on me :-( I was told that with the new MacBook's there have been a lot of crashing and burning. However, I got it fixed in no time and no problems since. I had my PC for 7 years before getting my mac and wouldn't go back. My PC died ALL the time. I've already converted one friend. Just get the Apple Care.

:-)

P.S. as for closing programs and stuff, on a mac the controls are on the left side instead of the right like on a PC...and when you open a program the control panel remains at the very top of your screen at all times -- that's where the menu and preferences and stuff are..on a PC each window you open has it's own control panel. If that makes sense.....it took me a minute to figure it out too.

Upgrading is hardly comparable to a new system.

what controls? I am confused.
You have control panels that stay open all the time at the top of the screen? OH....you mean the Menu Bar? at the top of the screen.

Actually, this is one sweet upgrade that definitely sounds like it would rival a new system.

Maybe, but comparing the cost of an upgrade to a new system is apples to oranges.

Wise choice to go check it out. It does boil down to if you like it doesn't it? If you do, go for it. :-)

I bet Mac would get a lot of converts if they'd do a 30-day in-home trial thing. They ARE quite friendly to use.
