Hi,

I'm new to this forum and have a question.

Short of paying for a professional calibration of my Sony DR-150 and Shinko S1245, does anyone have any suggestions on how to accomplish a satisfactory calibration between the computer and printers? In other words, what I see on my computer screen is not always what comes out on the printers, color-wise and contrast-wise.

Download the ICC profiles from you printer manufacturer and proof with those. You could also try and see if letting the printer manage the colors or PS manage the colors does a better job.

First question: Are your monitors calibrated?

Also, you generally need a different profile for each combination of paper/ink that you are using.

Hi, again

My friend referred me to this site. And I'm glad he did.

Thanks so much for the quick responses and words of welcome. I've got enough info to get going on tweaking my printers. I've been using the setup for around six months, and have printed thousands of pix. I've been using the test-and-hit-and-miss approach. It works, but is frustrating, so I thought I'd get it tightened up by learning the technicalities a bit more (Kind of like my photography, in general:)

So I guess I have to calibrate my monitors, which they're not, and learn to get and load profiles. And I'm going to go through the normankoren.com site (in my spare time:)

I'm a youth sports photgrapher, having a great time shooting the "Future of America", and am passionate about photography!

three things to consider actually. coming from a recent article i read.

1 - white balance
2 - monitor calibration
3 - paper calibration ( proper profile for the paper to be output on )
