Hi Cecilia, welcome to the TS thread!
The creator of Team Suck, and our Fearless Leader, is Don aka posthumous. We are an accepting bunch here. You may want to PM him. He usually requests a short (and I do mean short) essay or haiku or something on "what sucking means to you." You may also want to go through these threads and make sure that sucking is for you... :-) The other factor is if there is enough room on a team right now. Don will know. |

Hmmmm, bet I know which one is yours. We'll see when the challenge is done!
Edit to add I don't have a lot of comments either. Quality of images seems unusually high for open challenge.

Well, if you tell me which one it is, I will vote on it. :)
Just kidding, you might have to wait after the challenge.
I just finished voting on all the entries myself, now I got to go back and leave some comments. |

I don't know, a 6.7 and a 6.5 seem pretty good to me... :) |

I have to agree... Cecilia you don't suck at all!!! Your goals are not very Team Suck appropriate either. We tend to glorify our sub 5 shots, not aspire to 7+ scores. You might want to read up on us a bit more. Not that we wouldn't be happy to have you, but you might feel a bit out of place.

I'm not so sure she wouldn't fit. Emerkaza's got some nice 4.x scores and came darn close to a brown ribbon once. But I agree, she has to do something about adjusting those goals -- not at all the right frame of mind for Team Suck.
Cecilia, take a look a Posthumous's goals. |

Well, I do want to improve my photography skills, so maybe this isn't the team for me. It's a bummer because you guys look like you're alot of fun. ;-)
Can anyone recommend a good team for someone who currently does sucky work but is hoping to get better?
Thanks,
Cecilia

Hey Cecilia, I don't think anyone here in the group has the notion that they don't want to improve as a photographer. I believe we all do. There are many means to an end... Honestly there are some extrodinary photographers in the group, I'm amazed what they put out sometime. |

You might find the WPL more satisfying in that regard. And be warned that being on Team Suck goes on your permament record.
Oh, I forgot to tell the rest of you that, didn't I? My bad!
But if you still want to join, nora wants a haiku and dadgum you better give her one!

There is a general air of camaraderie of consideration and personal involvement that you won't get elsewhere.
If you get the high score, you will get to review all the TS shots and let your teammates know how they did by your directed comments. You'll get considered, intelligent, helpful comments in return.
Team Suck helps take the edge off what can sometimes be an unpleasant experience if you honestly miss the mark or if you just flub an entry. Sometimes the voting can be cold, impersonal, and brutal. You won't get that here.
Your photography will improve, and you'll find that the sharp people here will give you support and guidance you won't get elsewhere.....we actually had a thread going where we reviewed our take on where various photog's talents lay in our views.
I think some of us were surprised to see how our work was viewed.
It's a good home.

I think this is a pretty good photo, too...
Oh, and this one......I also really like it but it's a candidate for a "No Comments" ribbon.....and the score sucks...

And from the category of TRULY sucking.....
Minimalism-Place: 225 out of 227
No brown ribbon, juts a disgraceful placement.
A new personal low for me......8>(
Even though it's not as low a score as my first challenge, it placed worse.

I have two (2) comments on my Free Study. Wah. And I may have an entry for personification if I can edit it such that it isn't completely blah and boring. But it is funny and definitely suck-worthy, so as long as I don't exceed today's precious minute allowance, I'll stick it in. A 4 never hurts to balance out the occasional 6, right? :-)
Sorry I missed the pool party - couldn't get a connecting flight in time. Maybe next one! |

Good morning Suckers! Looks like I'm the only one here right now - hmmmm, what does that say about me?
For everyone who is feeling bad about scores in Free Study, I want to put out there that this is one of the best free studies I've seen in terms of DPC-friendly photos. In other words, almost all of them are solid technically and non-contraversial. It's hard to give very many sub-5, or really even sub-6 scores. I think the competition is nearly as tough on this as the Best of 2006.
On the other hand, I haven't scored very many 8, 9 or 10. This really does seem to be a "send in your solid stuff" challenge. If I see another beach I may go mad, though... (apologies in advance to any suckers who may have entered beach photos). And in fairness to photogs, there were one or two very creative beach photos.

The 30-day where I live challenge has been fun. I haven't participated in any of the previous 30-day ones but I find it a refreshing change from the regular challenges.

I have a brown ribbon contender in personi - thingy.
kdsprog, I've worked for a couple of people who went to the wall. Guess what - I didn't get paid. Feelin for you. It's probably obvious, but whatever resources you have now, use them for something that brings you something in the future - don't throw good money after bad :)

Okay, who writes things like "ewwww" in comments? Come on, surely people can be a little more helpful than that. If you're going to bother writing a comment, why not at least make it something good? Trolls are real! |

My favorite comment was regarding my goat on a park bench. I was fully expecting DNMC comments - got plenty of those and had no issue. But one was especially funny: "What are you procratinating? Milking the goat?" Funny because that particular goat, horns and all, is a billy goat. In other words, you probably wouldn't want to, um, try milking him. |

So this may not be the most scenic area of Italy, but it's still quite lovely and the people here sure seem to enjoy themselves. The area where I'm at was quite packed during the day today, and a lovely day it was! And I must say that the Italians know food and coffee. The coffee here is incredibly good, and the food... the place we went to dinner tonight was wonderful (and the waiter was not hard on the eyes, either). Tomorrow we check in to our conference, get a tour of the facilities we're visiting, then take a bus to Pisa for a brief tour there. I'll get some standard tourist shots I'm sure. I'll eventually get some stuff posted - preferably when I get less expensive access. Meanwhile, hi to everybody! |
