I ran across this one, but I don't know who took it - probably not a DPCer: This is my cousin, Stu. He's a village burner also, but he is a little quirkier than me. |
That picture was actually featured in Maxim Magazine! By a reader..... heh |

You might want to take a screenshot of the site (and save the page as html) while the image is still up.

Good call! I snagged both a screenshot and saved the page in case Irene doesn't get to it.

I just sent Stu a plane ticket to Jacksonville and told him there was a hot, single lady who wanted to meet him. :P |

I think it is a bad thing for someone to steal an image but I also think we should let IreneM handle this herself in a professional manner.
Usually when handled in a professional and polite manner things are taken care of rather quickly. People from DPC keep commenting and fueling the fire. I think this doesn't make DPC as a community look good either.

I like to rework my pictures and wonder if I would need to re-register (an expensive proposition) each final version I would come up with. |
Took me a minute, but you are talking about copyright registration, right? |
Sorry it took me a bit to reply. Yes, I'm talking about copyright registration. Any opinions? |

This is the same image that was on Digg & on Fark right? How about submitting a link with the story of how someone stole the image, with links to both. That would get their attention, seeing as how it bogged us down. (though it would bog us again).
Still that is just low, and to add their own to it, some ppl.

According to the Copyright web site, you only need to re-apply if you have substantually changed the appearance of the original. So even if you changed it from color to black and white or flipped it, cropped, or did anything like that but still have enough of the original to be able to show it is your image, you do not have to re-register. If your image was unpublished when you first registered and then you sell it or do something else to make it published, you don't have to re-register. I'm not sure what you do if you sell or give the copyright to someone else and do a trasfer of copyright.

Dpc wouldn't be a "community" if we didn't try and help each other when times get tough.
I thank Cindi and Leroy from the bottom of my heart for going over there and "rattling chains".

Thanks Di, it was a great help and I've mailed to all the addresses you sent.
As Gina and Karma said, the weekend will probably slow things down, but I really hope that the image will be taken down some time tomorrow.

Is there something we can do here on the site to try to prevent this. Maybe, once a challenge is over, have a watermark on them. With our non-entries I believe we can. It does take away some of the viewing pleasures. Just a thought.
edit; something like the free version of the hdr program photomatix?

I thought about that too, as a sad compromise. People will say it doesn't stop theft, but it would at least deter some, and make stolen DPC images that much easier to locate. Or make watermarking optional in preferences, 'yes, watermark my images' or somesuch. It would be cool if somehow the watermark were only visible if not viewed on DPC, but I don't think web technology is that sophisticated yet.

Irene, I would quote this verbatim when I contacted Rackspace about Break.com.

Remember that it does not help things to fuel the fire on Break.com. I'm pretty sure with the appropriate notices made the owners of Break.com will respond appropriately.
Let's remember it is Sunday and most administrative types do get a day off now and then. As of yet I don't see needs for pitchforks. We don't want to get complaints from them about our users. :)
Give it a couple days gang. By Tuesday we can pitchfork 'em. :) |
