A friend of mine contacted some greeting card companies and one in Europe bought some of her images. I think she was paid too little. Something like 50 Euros an image.
Is there a standard rate or typical rate for this kind of usage? Any guidelines to follow or does it really depend on who you're dealing with?
Also, I'm sure there's specific terminology a photographer would use when requesting what the standard pay would be, so what would she ask for?

There isn't a "standard" price for such things, pricing is based on use and other factors and every situation is a bit different.
