I know what the strength of my photo is and I recognize the one big weakness of my photo. I would say it will start out at about a 5.8 then do the normal drop and then a slight climb back up to end up around a 5.4 to 5.6. |

I have absolutely no idea. It's my first submission to any photo contest/challenge! I just want to see what results I get. Everyone I've showed it to (family & friends) really likes it, so we'll see...

Ok This was a last minute idea for my book titles submission, but I'm going to hope for a 5.5 and guess about 6 comments. |

I chose a book that probably no one's heard of...and had a bad review to top it off. 5.2 6 comments |

Me too! I'll go with 5.3, but I reserve the right to revise that guess after I shoot the photo .... |
Kind of running out of time, aren't you? :-) |
Made it with 7 minutes to spare ... maybe I'll lower my expectations to a 5.1. |

There's a lot of really good shots in this challenge!
I'm definitely lowering my expectations.
Ah well..
good luck everyone. |

I have no big expectations for this one. I selected it from the shots I took this weekend just 10 minutes before the "bell rang". Had two in mind, both good shots, but nothing clever like I had wanted to do, and nothing earth shaking. I changed my mind at 11:59 and changed to the other, but I was a couple seconds late I guess!
The problem with challenges on the site, is that if I do that, and later "regret" the photo, you can't remove it from your portfolio! |

I have seen a TON of really nice shots this time around, and its kinda nice to have less than 300 entries for one. Heck, this is definetely my best submission yet, I am hoping for really anything above a 5 at this point. |

This is the last time I'm staying up past my bedtime for a grand opening. I get so disappointed. I hope I get an ending score above 5. Three votes 7 and then down drastically. Oh well, can't please them all! Taking a quick look at the entries, I might only get in the 4's. Excellent ideas.
goodnight everyone. |

I've dropped from 5.5 to 4.8 in an hour! Somebody just gave me a 2 without commenting! I think I'll go to bed and forget about it. My Book Title is a much better photo than my Sacred Places one, which is down around 4.5 right now. I'm hoping for a mid-5's on Books.

Hmmm ... around 4.5 in the early returns ... a long way to go. If things don't improve soon you'll all be soon subjected to the out-takes I'm about to go out to take. |

i thought i would get something like 5 and i honestly thought it was a good shot... but after 26 votes so far, i got only 4.6 :((.
This is my third submission...
Is this low score because my photos doesnt get the real sharpness? I only have a 2MP camera Olympus D-390.. I feel very much depressed! |

I highly doubt it has to do with the sharpness of your images.
So far the only thing you've submitted to challenges are images of flowers and they are pretty nice but don't really set your images apart from the others. I might suggest trying subjects other than flowers. The problem is, in order to do well shooting flowers you have to either have to shoot them in a very creative way or find and interesting flower and shoot it with a shallow depth of field or an uncluttered background. This would help separate the flower from the background giving the viewer a specific subject.
This is all strictly my opinion of course and not written in stone by any means.
I hope this helps,
Quadrajet

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my score around 2:30 this morning and found it sitting right around a 6.3. It's still at 6.2 which I find shocking.
It's a good photo...one I like for reasons that have nothing to do with DPC (in fact, the book title came to me AFTER I took the photo...I didn't take it for the challenge). I just didn't think it would be 6 "material" here.
I'm certainly not complaining, but this entry just intensifies my inability to understand the dpc voters. :)

I firmly expect to score under 3.
Maybe 4. |

I will be happy with a 4. This is my 2nd submission and I'm at a 5.1 now, but I'm not going to do cartwheels yet. I would like maybe 5 comments.

Wow, from what I've read throughout the threads, having 99 votes, 5 commments, and a 5.85 is really good for my first submission? (As of 12am) But I'm not ready to get my hopes up yet, we'll see how it pans out...

My first entries were in the 3's, a high 5 is a great start :)
I tend to find that after about 50 votes the score tends to settle, as each score has a proportionally reduced effect as more scores are added.
It can still fluctuate, but at 50 votes I tend to think I have a pretty good idea how the shot is going to do.
