baseball and golf fans arguing over which is the most physically demanding. Seesh, talk about racing for last place. Maybe we could get some cricket fans in to the mix too.
It certainly is a good walk spoiled and I can say that with an 11 handicap and many years of 3-rounds a day play.

Atleast in baseball you have someone throwing 90 to 100 mph. Talk about concentration and focus then baseball is your sport. A fastball at 95 mph reaches homeplate in .04 seconds. It takes people .15 to blink their eyes in response to visual signals. Now add curveballs, sinkers, sliders, and other various pitches to the mix. Charles Barkley is 6' 6" and 300 pounds. Thats is not a fair comparison. You should of seen how bad tiger woods did in batting practice. Made Garth Brooks look like Babe Ruth when we was hanging out with the Padres. i have played golf and absolutely have no respect for it. Maybe the easiest sport I have ever played and a close second with be connect four. |
Hence the super in your name! :)
On the serious side, how old are you? Your profile says "89" and can I assume that was the year you were born? And to all the rest of us who aren't 18 anymore, let's just remember that youth is wasted on the young!
Just teasing you Dave! Go out and play a few more rounds, play a tougher course. I picked up the game last year, and it is the most enjoyable and frustrating way to spend an afternoon outside. Yes, I bring my camera along for the gorgeous views and wildlife!

You are off by a factor of ten -- a 90 mph is traveling at 132ft/sec. Over a distance of about 60 feet that would take just under a half-second. |

how exactly do you define "sport?" |
Anything other than golf, bowling, darts, poker, drinking games, profesional eating, computer gaming, or photography. In other words anything you can do while smoking, drinking and talking with your friends.
I was going to put soccer in the middle just to make people go crazy but I didn't. Soccer is a sport. |

if i drank or smoked, i could conceivable do those things while playing baseball. i might have to put my drink down to bat, or catch the ball, but, hey, i have to put it down to swing the club as well.
so, i guess by your definition, baseball isn't a sport. :)
neither is football, cycling, lacrosse, rugby, or cricket for in all of those things, you could have a cigarette hanging out of your mouth.
i guess, by your definition, the only thing that is truly a sport is swimming. i guess you could smoke, but the water keeps putting the durn thing out.
(and yes, this post is tongue in cheek. you are entitled to your opinion, and i am entitled to think you are wrong) |

Do they allow smoking in the car? I think the pit crews qualify as a sport.
Ya, the verdict is out on some of those others. You have to be athletic to cycle. Baseball requires short bursts of athleticism, so it is a sport, but not a pure sport.

Not my definition, but I find it amusing:
A good friend of mine says that he knows whether or not a sport should be an Olympic sport by pondering whether or not the Spartans would have done it. Or, for the Winter Olympics, the Vikings. Basically, in his world, golf and figure skating are out. ;-)

Having played both sports I can say that golf is very difficult and requires a lot of concentration....but there is no way you can say that hitting a stationery object (albeit with a high degree of accuracy) can compare to hitting a 5 1/4 oz. ball coming at you btw 85 and 102 mph (which could seriously injure or kill you if it connected with your face/head). The reaction time, concentration, hand/eye coordination, strength, vision, and coordination required to be a consistently good hitter in baseball are exponentially greater than the requirements of a "good" golf game..... |

I actually really don't care what is called a sport. I just like messin with people. I think there are skill sports, and athletic sports. Both are diffrent, and require diffrent skills.
Except golf, that really isn't a sport.

And I've heard a quote about this, that "cross-country skiing isn't a sport, it's how a Swede goes to the 7/11." |

It's as much a sport as poker. I mean, both are on ESPN, that makes them both sports.

Watching either on TV isn't entertaining in the least, so they must be classified as sports, just like fishing is now.
