Am I the only one going through the entries this morning to find out what the acronyms were supposed to be? Some of the guesses are hysterical! But not all the photogs explained their acronyms in their notes. I *still* can't figure some of them out!!!

So, for the confused who haven't made it w-a-y down into the middle of the pack where my entry ended up, here 'tis:

SWW = Slippery When Wet

OMG = Oh My God! or Oh My Goodness!

I figured you could look at it one of two ways:

OMG! This is horror!
or
OMG! That book was only $6.99!!!???

As an afterthought, I realize I should have removed the sticker or desaturated to B&W :)

ASL = Age Sex Location
Though some thought American Sign Language which in a roundabout way might work as well.

I liked posthumous's "Attractive Single Loser" as a guess on yours ;-)

Los Angeles. I shot this without the challenge in mind, but couldn't come up with anything else and then remembered the city's name.

Many of the depicted acronyms were not familiar to me, so I could not really vote on this challenge. I suspect many acronyms are specific to SMS or instant messaging or region-specific which doesn't help.

SNAFU stands for "Situation Normal All F**ked Up" and is a military term for "Oops," basically. it started somewhere in WWII.

someone can probably poke holes in this information, but i'm too lazy to look at wikipedia. i just like saying "snafu!"

Unsharp Mask! USM is a post processing sharpening technique, first in the darkroom, now in photoshop. Thought that would be obvious around here, but some of the comments (and the 4.433) indicate not as much as I thought!

Some folks say "Fouled"...but I'm sure that's not how the soldiers pronounced it. :)

(I'd post the wikipedia link but it's just not that interesting.)

That's because your photo was, ummmm, blurry? :P

- NASCAR

Has something to do with auto racing (Stock Car), not exactly sure, and I wouldn't have entered anything if it wasn't for the WPL season. Woke up the morning of rollover at 3.77 with 28 votes, PLUS a validation request. :D Thankfully it finished a bit higher than that. He-he.

BTU = British Thermal Unit!

I happened across a gentleman conducting a controlled burn on his property. It was within the timeframe of the challenge, and I wanted something out of the norm.

Maybe it would've been better to have half of the image sharp and the other one blurry, I'm sure it would've scored much higher. Just a thought...

ICU = I See You - C sounds like See, and U like You, right? Well, even though it can be found on any acronym website, some people considered it a DNMC. Funny, one guy posted the same comment for all the ICU entries, and there were a couple, all meaning I See You and not Intensive Care Unit. You would figure that at the 3rd ICU they would realize that maybe the acronym is valid... oh, well, it doesn't matter anyway, it's just a game.

What the F**k?

Thought it was pretty obvious, but maybe not. Perhaps it just offended some? If so, I'm sorry. :) Bad Potty mouth... BAD, BAD, BAD!! :-D

I think mine explains itself pretty well. I spent hours creating this. Hoped it would have done a little better (at least better than Shannon's!!!) but I'm not unhappy with the results. :)

Actually for the situation this photo exhibits it makes perfect sense; and it makes one feel the magnitude of the hurdle if he needed an exit now; I liked it and gave it a good grade, and it made me laugh too; however this acronym used with few of the other entries it felt pale and silly.

You mean it wasn't "Definitely Nose Adjectives"? After the first day I started making up my own acronyms. A lot of folks seemed to think I really thought the acronym meant what I typed. I was just having fun with them. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Mine was "What Would Jesus Do" and I really wasn't expecting it to finish so high. I kinda had the impression (I'm new around here) that "religious" photos wouldn't score very high.

WWJD = What Would Jesus Do

I thought mine was pretty obvious, UFO. Bummed about my placement but it's an ok score.

LOL - Laughing Out Loud!!

And honestly....if you cannot see this bird is laughing then you really do need to laugh more yourself.

Also for the record...this bird is wild and was at the top of a very large tree...no studio, lights, or domestication! And no...I didn't remove the sky.
