I bought one several months ago and it's still in the packaging. I suppose it's hard to take pictures with it that way.

So I am apparently not as acronym-savvy as I thought. I can only venture a guess or two...

Girly Noise Diminisher?
Groin Neutralizing Device?
Gross National Disposition?

I give up.

Gradual Neutral Density Filter :P its to balance a landscape/waterscape type photo by underexposing hte sky to expose both foreground and sky evenly

Weird I got almost the same setup today! But I got the Lee ND .6 Graduated Neutral Density Filter instead. Weird! :-)

I have a question Judi. Can I stack that on top of my UV filter to get the benefit of both?

Hey Wazza. With anything like this I ask myself one question. Is there a rule that says I can't? If not...try it. There is only one way to find out. Try two shots....with and without...and different angles...then you will know what will work for your camera, settings, location and preferences.

I got the 2/4/6 set for Christmas, I like them. You should get the GND Tobacco and the Sunset1. The Blue$Gold CPL (Lee I think) is on my list when I have actual disposable income.

I got the cokin p this week too. I got some gnd and the sunset. I also got the infrared but so far my fears about it are correct in that it lets light in because it isn't directly against the lens. I hope to use the GNDs soon.

I have the Lee 4x6" system with .3, .6, and .9 GNDs in both soft and hard transitions. I'll sometimes stack filters in various combinations to increase the shading even further or to shade the top and bottom portions of the shot, leaving the middle bright.

Here are some of the shots in which I have used these filters...

I love my Cokin GND filters!

I have scratched them a couple of times and had to replace them, but they're not expensive.

I also have the Cokin Polarizer, which is glass and breaks. Be careful not to leave it in the filter holder while placing the filter holder on the lens. With the wide angle P adapter, it falls out.

If you have adapters for several lenses, I recommend getting the lens caps for the adapters! The beauty of this is that you end up with a "universal" lens cap. So when you change lenses, you can move the lens cap from the new lens to the one being put away!

As for shots, I use GNDs quite a bit, but here are a few samples:
