Oh where has the colour gone,
The saturated reds and greens?
Icelandic blues, and shifted hues,
They are nowhere to be seen.

Looking at my rankings lately, they must be stuck somewhere between places 10 and 30.

Yes the front page has been sort of depressing lately.

I have to agree on that. I find the challenges have been a little bit on the dramatic side the last couple of weeks, but nevertheless there have been some fantastic and outstanding photographs, like always.

I love colors in photography. Black and white has its place, dark hues too, but I love brilliant fun colors.

Maybe it's my lack of sense of humor or something, but I could not laugh at the crossdressing challenge. I just think it's wrong.

But the pictures there were not really colorful, but were well executed.

Not funny? Wrong? Okay, that just is weird to me. As someone whose comedy sense was formed under the influences of Monty Python, Dame Edna, and Eddie Izzard I can't imagine how you can not see the comedic potential of a dude in a dress. ;)

BTW: If it's a touch of homophobia that is what is really going on with your "wrong" comment, then you should a) get over it, and b) look up the difference between "crossdressing," "transvestite," "transexual," "transgender," and "homosexual." Please hand your essay in at the start of class tomorrow.

I got to love this comment... :)

I have a sense of humor and I have to say I have acted in a dress before, so I must have some sense of humor (according to your view on comedy). Sure, I am a little bit homophobic and I am sure many "straight" men are. But I know the difference when it comes to all these "scientific" terms. ;)

It's just that a lot of these pictures portray what I find wrong in (our degenerated) society. I asked for a couple of outside opinions and they agreed with me. I just have to say that comedy has a lot to do with what "norms" are set for society and can change the way we view things. If we take for example the word "fu**" then it is funny in todays society while it would be highly inappropriate a few decades ago.

Well if you love color so much...and everyone else is craving some color then WHYYYYY is a certain pic in the portrait challenge getting a crap review! The answer to that question, my friend, is that people crave drama and darkness over bright happy color!... At least that is what Im using as an excuse as to why my pic is not doing so hot! lol

Just have to say the reason why there are no "Icelandic blues" is that a nasty storm is over us right now and it is pouring rain so few people are willing to risk their equipment for a shot of the nasty grey'ish landscape.

Color is dead so they have said,
The Blue, the Red & the Green.

Just go drop some 10s on colorful pics in the current challenges. I could suggest a couple. ;)

. . .

Well as long as someone "outside" told you that homophobia was okay, then I guess that will be fine. I'm sure that lots of " 'straight' " (odd use of the quotes there, btw) men are homophobic. I can also assure you that lots of staight men (notice -- no quotes -- therefore no odd implication of ironic juxaposition) aren't.

As far as the degeneration of our society goes, I think there are a lot worse things to be worried about than dudes in dresses and chicks in pants. And Christ, according to your profile you're only 18! That's a little young to be rocking on the back porch talking about the degeneratioin of modern society.

Look, I'm being a little tongue in cheek here, but I'm also not. (Kidding on the square, see.) Like I said the first time. . . get over it. Try worrying about stuff that really matters.

First want to say... sorry for the odd use of quotes. ;)

Well about the age thing, I think there are no limits to what you can and can't think about at a certain age. I believe that the brain should be used for though and reasoning at all ages, no matter how "big" or far out from the "norm" of the age group. I hate it when people say I can't think or reason because I don't have a diploma that says so! Even so if I had a diploma it in many cases would tell people that I am familiar with some other peoples ideas and don't have anything of my own. So I would rather have my own free thinking and be familiar with some other peoples theories and ideas rather than having a diploma on my wall.

And talking about stuff that really matters... What really matters? Saving Africa? Talking about political justice? Should a man be allowed to kill another one for his money? -- (little far of with the last one). But hey... everything matters! So when it comes to the tolerance of modern society, it continues to grow. That I think is a future problem, because where will it end? As a said with the f-word, what was highly inappropriate decades even years ago, is considered to be chicken shit right now. You should be able to have witnessed the change of atmosphere of the TV, because I sure have (even though I am "young" at age) and so have my people in the same age group as I. Just an example of that is cartoons, which have becoming dummer and dummer for each new generation.

Well ... I am going to stop now since I see there are a lot of directions this discussion can go, but if you ever want to further discuss this just send me a message or give me call... I bet we can have a blast! ;) (no offense intended there).

The OP wished to discuss the use of color in the challenge results. In this thread, let's keep on track with that, OK?

Yes... sorry.

Have already commented on the colors.

Go to your control panel, find your screen configuration utility and go to the driver settings for your screen. There should be some settings there that you can use to control the color of your screen. Just mess around with it until the frontpage pics look colorful again.

Maybe it's time for a Spring Colours challenge ?? a nice bit of contrast between the passing winter and new life.

that's all well and good, but spring colors around here are mud and brown until somewhere toward the end of may... ;}
