Just a reminder to everyone that the Penn Relays are happening April 26-28, 2007.

Wikipedia says of the Penn Relays
, "The Penn Relays (also Penn Relays Carnival) is one of the largest track and field meets in the United States, hosted annually since April 21, 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It regularly attracts over 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges, and track clubs throughout North America and abroad, competing in over 300 events over five days. Historically, the event has been credited with popularizing the running of relay races."

Last year I went and got some great images including my 3rd place image in Photojournalism II.

If anyone is interested in meeting up any time during the course of the events let me know. I might try to make all 3 days this year.

Good call I should have included that. Thanks, Mary. ;)

You planning on going to the relays?

I've worked at Penn for 11+ years and have never gone to the Relays. Maybe on Saturday, the 28th.

Do they let you roam around the stadium to take photographs?

You can roam the stands although some sections are harder to shoot in/from than others. You're not allowed to go onto the track/field although there are professionals shooting there. I haven't looked into what it takes to get a press pass.

This year I'm going to be sure to bring my full kit and make sure everything is charged. DOH!

Don't know what shot is yours that skip references, but if yours is a favorite that is impressive... the Penn Relays has been one of the top track and field events in the USA for a long, long time.

Edit to add: And the fact that it's not just one of his favorites, but one of his ALL TIME favorites, makes my day. Thanks, Skip.

Skip is right!

Did not know this was from the Penn Relays but this is a fantastic track and field image. I ran track and field for many years and this image epitomizes relay meet events as much as I've ever seen. Great capture!

Thanks.

It's an amazing event and I only went for one day. This year I'll probably go to all three. You're welcome to fly out that week and check it out. I promise not to get you lost. ;)
