in the spirit of nothing in particular, i thought it would be interesting to see everyone's worst photos. partly to see how far some people have come and partly to discuss what went wrong and why voters were turned off to a certain photo. Here is mine
my intentions for this photo were to catch the essence of a surveillance camera with usually poor quality, grainy types of pictures...at least that's how i saw them in my head. for the caught in the act part the surprised look on the samurai's face to me said caught in the act...few agreed with me on that.

From the upside down challenge -- still one of the shots I've had the most fun setting up, shooting, and watching the score plummet on -- knew exactly what was gonna happen when I entered it. Low score is easy to figure out -- few people figured out it WAS upside down. |

"Flight"
4.689
This did poorly mainly due to the graininess of the dark areas and there were some who didn't think that the sparks should be considered as "In Flight". I worked really hard for this shot and thought it deserved better at the time. It really isn't all that grainy on the original. I think that reducing it in size for the site hurt it. But, looking back, I learned to keep everything nice and sharp. Well, except for the current Soft focus challenge. (;

Who would have thought some recent study of colour theory, Op Art and a visit to a Modern art exhibition could combine to yield my lowest score ever:
4.3 from the book titles challenge
It's supposed to hurt and jump around, that's how you can tell its working... |

This was my lowest at 4.033. I guess I had badly interpreted the challenge. :-)

I have remarkably little sympathy for people whose lowest score is in the 5's, especially if it is 5.5 or above. I'm not crying for you people.
3.359
Incindentally, here's my lowest. It was killed for being a last minute, huge stretch for the challenge topic. I had fun, though!

I thought for sure I'd get my first sub-5 entry with this shot, but luckily I eeked out a 5.014 thanks to the vote scrubber:

I suppose I have to wait until voting is over on the Scent challenge before I post it here? It's bombing pretty well. :-)

I understood the comments made. I was really struggling with understanding the differences and use of sharpen v usm. I still don't understand them very well. My difficulties are in the "liquifying" of the edges after resizing and then opening again at a larger display size. It is just the learning curve that takes time. I'll get it.

This is my lowest rated, but I think it won̢۪t be for long, this week's is pretty close.
I am pretty happy with it, but people just "didn't get it"

My third submission I think. I still think it's better than a 4.6, but hey - 250+ voters can't be wrong...or can they?

My third challenge. This earned a whopping 3.659 and I was lucky to get that. This is everything NOT to do. It's over exposed, the horizon is tilted, and it's very boring!! Head hung in disgrace.

Here's mine. I was in hospital when second son was born. Shot of No. 1 son playing on the floor. Had no time for real "Square" shot. So, I saw the floor squares and titled it "In Search of Square One". I thought it wasn't too bad. Not...

Couldn't think of anything else - until the challenge was over of course :-) |
