haha, that last photo is great! I myself have had 4 open heart surgeries in my life...3 before turning 2, and my last one was at 16, so really the only one I remember. But I have that exact same tool, and remember sitting there and sucking in until my lungs felt like they were going to burst and only getting to about 1,000 ml :)

Congrats on the successful surgery and I'm wishing you on for a speedy recover.

Congrats on a successful procedure... My baby sister had the same procedure done over 15 years ago when she was 9... She did great and other than her "zipper", you would never know she had surgery done!!!

PS... she HATED the breathing exercises!!!

I had missed the news that he was to have surgery but glad to hear he's back home. Wishing him a quick and painless recovery.

Karma, Bernard... I'm just wondering how recovery is going? Haven't heard an update in a while.

he's doing well. He went back to work last week for half days, and is going to try almost whole days this week. He still gets tired fairly quickly, though his endurance has increased exponentially, it seems, in the past couple of weeks, and his chest still hurts where they separated the ribs from the sternum. But, he's a trooper and plugging right along.

Now, he's on a healthy food/exercise kick, which is good for everyone in the house. :)

THANKS for asking. I'll point him to this thread in case he doesn't see it.

To all of you... THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kind thoughts, prayers, and overall support. Thank you for giving Karma wonderful friends to lean on during a time that has been tough for us.

I'm actually back at work, finally, and overall doing pretty well. I think my heart is in wonderful shape (we'll find out for sure on July 18), but all the stuff they cut, broke, poked, and prodded is still problematic from time to time.

I've actually only got a red line; no "zipper". There were no external stitches or staples; they use glue now. It's kinda anticlimatic to see it after all the years I dreaded it and all the money Blue Cross spent to get it done, but I'm very blessed to be able to show it off and thankful to God for what I consider a miracle.

Thanks again to all. I do hope to get the camera activated again soon. :)

Ya gotta point there! Of course, it's not a bad time of year for that, for me, since I only watch Nascar, football, and B-ball (sportswise).
