Anyone have any complaints about this camera? Was thinking about the Fuji S5000 but think i may get the Olympus, so any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
Some of the minus items i have read about this camera, can anyone tell me if they have seen or experienced these problems with their C-750 camera?
:AF performance could be better (an AF illuminator would help too)
:EVF difficult to see in low light
:Some purple fringing
:Zoom controller a little sluggish
:Slowest shutter speeds only available in full manual mode

I have taken 2,000+ photos with 1. As for specifics you noted:
**AF is OK, except when shooting something small or low-contrast at a distance (birds in sky, moon in full eclipse). I now switch to manual focus.
**EVF has a booster for low-light situations, but it's really only good enough for aiming the shot. (BTW, noise reduction works pretty well.)
**Purple fringing, I guess, some, but only in certain cases.
**Zoom sluggish - it does hesitate a little, but I've gotten used to the timing, and the only time I've missed shots because of the zoom is when I zoomed the wrong way by accident.
**Slow shutter speeds only in manual - true.
Plus's in my book - 10x optical zoom, 380 mm lens equivalent
- fits nice in the hand, not too heavy
- hot shoe for external flash
- ISO 50 rating gives nice quality pics
- panoramic and split-screen shots possible
Minus's - highest f-stop is f/8
- AF can hold you back, unless you've got the button half-pressed
- split-screen only works on certain settings
- panorama only works with Olympus xD cards (i.e. not Fuji's)
- I'm not sure I like the xD card yet, as downloads seem slow
- mode wheel on top right of camera, where I sometimes accidentally move it from my desired setting
- filters and accessory lenses need an adapter, which results in vignetting at wide angles

If you're interested in doing some on-line research, there are good technical reviews available at:
Steve's Digicams
and
Dave's Imaging Resource
If I were buying now, I would get the Minolta Dimage A-1, which is more costly than the C-750, or else look at the Minolta Dimage Z-1, which is a direct competitor, and priced around the same.
Good Luck!

Just a suggestion , buy @ Walmart . They have the Fuji s5000 & Minolta Z1 , I don't know about the Oly . The advantage is their 90-day cash back guarantee . I'm on my second upgrade now and the money is in the bank for my 3rd ! I just hope they're not browsing & hunt me down for this ! LOL ! Anyways,it was their employee who turned me on to this . Needless to say , treat your camera like Gold , which it is anyways right ! |
