Start a Individual Photographic Discussion, participating in the forums, commenting on other's pictures.

I don't know the exact count of people signed on to DPChallenge but these are some of the ways others will visit or notice that you're awaiting comments.

Hi Ashley...

Welcome to DPC. I see that you have been here for about a week or so. There are a couple things you can do to make yourself more visible. First of all, jump in and play in the challenges :) Spending some time giving comments will usually get people to at least go view your profile and see what you have to offer.

There is a lot to gain by hanging around :)

Hey Ashley,

By the way, you mention in your portfolio that despite having to be 18 to be a member of this site, you're 16 and a member! There is no such rule or statement, I'm 17, and good ole Konador (whose on site council) is only 16. So don't think that just because your 16 makes you any less a member on the site then anyone else.

On that note, people aren't just gonna go into your portfolio and comment on all of your photos! Otherwise, that's the only thing people would be doing, all day long! There has got to be close to 10,000 different photos on here!

If you have some specific images you would like to have commented on, by all means, load em up, and ask in the forum for some people's opinions! Their are loads of people who are willing to help you, you just gotta let them know your lookin for it!

If you like post some of the photos you were hopin for some comments on, in this thread, and I'll leave some comments. Or PM me, I would love to talk to you about your photography. In any case, I don't think it's necessary for you to leave the site over something like this! The key is, just get involved, learn what you can, and have a good time.

Lee

This site, unlike others I've been on, does not focus on the critique of photos uploaded to your portfolio. The main focus here seems to be the forum discussions (which often include requests for comments) and the challenges. It's not easy to get many good critiques from the challenges either, but you will definitely get a feel for how people like your work.

Now that you've joined, perhaps you might try working on some challenge shots (I see you are working on your water entry, maybe just coincidence).

You can also try //www.photopoints.com, which has a free membership, and has some outstanding photographers. //www.photosig.com, is also free with a few more limitations. (Each also offers a membership option.) There's nothing wrong with belonging and participating in several communities, and using each for what they "do best".

In many of the "communities", the best way to get comments is to give them. I don't really think that's true here. But in photopoints, photosig, etc., many of the photographers work on a "reciprocation" basis. That doesn't mean they will necessarily give you a good rating if you give them one (although some work that way :( ), but they will at least comment on your work.

But definitely stick around a while. That's true everywhere; you must become part of the community.

Easiest way for someone to check out your pictures are to make comments within a challenge.

Next to scores, the thing people are looking for are comments. The more comments you make, the more people will visit your portfolio to see your pictures.

Keeping the pictures interesting in your portfolio will help people chose you as a favorite and thus usually more comments.

Hey Ashley,

You mention in your portfolio that while you know your "supposed" to be 18 to be a member on the site (where did you get that idea, I'm not 18), you are in fact a very mature 16 year-old. In case you didn't notice, this post really doesn't uphold that argument!!

People aren't just gonna go into your portfolio and comment on all of your photos! Otherwise, that's the only thing people would be doing, all day long! There has got to be close to 10,000 different photos on here!

The last winning photo is number 49033.

I agree, that you can jump in -- just remember people voting have no idea who or how old you are at the time, and that some people are helpful and some are rude; don't take it personally.

And we have members as young as six, so you're WAY ahead of some folks!

Welcome, and try to have fun. You can use the "Insert Thumbnail" link (the top-right button) to put one or two of your portfolio images into a thread for comments.

WOW!!!!

This little guy's great. And he's left over 30 comments on others' photographs. Magnificent.

His comments are really fresh and honest. He says it the way he sees it. I'm both impressed and envious.

Ashley -

Like others have said, submit to the challenges. Not only that, but be sure to review, vote, & comment on other submissions. I personally think voting & commenting other peoples photos is a great educational tool.

I've only been here about a month, but I've already began to learn so much.

Welcome to DPC and good luck!

Hey Ashley!

Don;t do it! There's just too much fun to be had on this site to just quit now! If you are a member, you can submit portfolio shots & invite people to comment on your picutres. Give it some time, I promise it'll be worth it.

Also, there has to be some self-interst in it for you that is outside of what others can provide you. This site will definitely make your photography get better. I hope this is an attractive prospect for you!

Hang in there! You're bound to evetually get the results you want! Have fun with the challenges and do your best!

Good luck & I hope to see you around both in the challenges & the forums!
