I've been trying to get a decent shot of a sunrise, for no reason other than I'm up before dawn and seen a few that I wish I could have captured. I finally got this one the other day. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I think it's a beautiful shot. There are some nice elements here that almost always make a good picture better - namely receding fencelines and largely undisturbed snow. It almost looks like a painting.
The cloud colors are very nice. I would have also tried to get a shot with the sun peeking over the horizon and between the trees. But this one is a keeper.

This is a beautiful shot. I relly like it. I've often dreamed of shooting the "perfect" sunrise shot - looks like you have one here. |

Peter - that looks like a great scene but have you gone a little crazy with the shadow/highlight filter in PShop CS? To me the effect is a bit distracting and disguises the natural impression that the snow delivers. I wonder what the original looks like - can you post it?
These are my only shots taken at sunrise so far.

Yes, this is the original with no post-processing except resizing:
The image at the start of this thread had a fair amount of shadow/highlight (as Imagineer pointed out), sharpen, crop, saturation and levels. Too much, I suppose?
Imagineer, your three are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. |

I prefer your original :-)
The other doesn't look "real" to me.

Here are some of my dawn photos, little to no post-processing.
Generally, I prefer to try to make it look as close to what I saw as possible. Not to say I'm scientific about it, I certainly "romanticize" it some. So - I try to replicate what my "heart" saw.

Peter - I prefer the original too which could do with a little lifting with curves, levels and a touch of sharpening. Very nice though and thanks for the comment too.
Wkmen - your heart's definitely in the right place! Nice work.

I prefer the original too! I take many Sunrise/Sunset shots. I personally strive for the ultimate shots w/ little to no photo editing |

Thans to you all for the comments and advice. That's what makes DPC great! Here is my revised version, based on the input you've given me:
I think its a big improvement; thanks, again.

Image vs. photo ?? I loved the 1st; Color , Texture , Depth , Feel , WOW ! Just because you asked for advice doesn't mean you have to follow it . I sincerely hope you saved the 1st < image > . Would Ansel Adams have used Photoshop ? |

Hi. I tried to view the photo being discussed in this thread and got a message "Sorry, invalid i.d..... The administrators have been informed of your request" Did I do something wrong? |

Probably not. This thread is from nearly four months ago, and Peter probably removed the photo from his portfolio to make room for newer images. |
