My opinion may differ from others so take it with a grain of salt...
This image reminds me a lot of a scene from the movie "Schindler's List" where there was a little girl in red when the rest of the movie scene was desated to black and white.
The difference is that in the movie she was walking through a scene of severe WWII devestation. It was a powerful effect that supported the overall theme of the movie.
The connection to your scene and the need for desat is not remotely as strong as the movie. Selective desat is one of the strongest photographic metaphors that exists. In order to work it must be strongly needed for the impact of your image. That is not normally the case of desat usage we usually see at DPC... nor is it in this image.
