I think I'm evolving into work. I think at this point, I'm doing it out of necessity. My real job is not paying the bills like it was 6 months ago. This should be about the busiest time of year for my industry and its painfully slow. I did Christmas portraits for some extra gift money this year. It was marginally profitable since most everyone I did was friends or family. But it was a good way of getting my name out. I did get a couple of jobs from people I didn't know from people passing them around their offices and church and places like that.
I am going to give this professional gig a go for at least one year. This is a super busy time of my life with a baby coming and moving to a new house soon. But once those 2 things are settled, I have a room devoted to being a studio in the new house. There is much to do there, but I will get the studio going as soon as possible. Senior pictures are right around the corner.
I really thought I was going thru a major creativity block, for the last several months. I'm finding out that it really wasn't blocked, just a little more redirected if anything. I'm having ideas for portraits like I was with my other photos. I figure I have 2 things to offer The Public... something different and something cheaper. Time will tell if its something better. There are many people out that have a lot of confidence in me. I reckon if it doesn't work out for me, I'm not going to be out a ton of money. But you guys better watch out cause I'll have a lot of kick ass equipment and a whole lot of time to think about challenge photos :)
Sorry so long winded. This is something that's been on my mind for a couple of months. Thanks for listening.

Obviously, it's a hobby for me. I'd have to pay someone to use my pictures:) unless, of course, you know someone who needs a pic of two reindeers mating! |

I like to think I got paid for my photography, but it was actually an extra assignment I took on. The Wildlife Habitat Committee asked me to document the flora and fauna on the plant property so we could be certified by the National Wildlife Habitat Council. We are certfified now, but I'm still bringing the camera to work. |

It is a hobby, but I am expecting to get a job with 'national geographic' or 'life' soon, and then it will be my profession and I will travel the world taking photos at their expense....
