Probably people equating science with nature. Frogs are common subjects of scientific study ...

Often one's most vivid (some might say only) memory of Biology class is of dissecting a frog.

Frog Dissection Lab

PS: Not to mention Galvani's experiments (with frogs) which lead to the discovery of the electro-chemical nature of nerve impulses and the nerve/muscle interface. There would be no EKGs without frogs ...

I have such a clear memory of the smell, no STENCH, of formaldehyde. I could smell it again just by looking at the photos from your link. Peeeeyooooo!

Interesting -- do you have a similar reaction to this one, where it was intended?

PS: I just found the link -- I knew enough to not look at the pictures ... : )

I have sin..
I dissected a frog with both eyes closed during
biology class..the frog was still alive and really cute and..
I killed it without waiting for instruction
that was over 10 years ago..

hand me more tissue please. *waaaaaahhh hu hu hu*

I need to make a confession at the religion thread.

I agree, but these photos won't get a DNMC from me -- just a lowered consideration.

Yeah, OK, I guess I'm not all that different, I'm certainly not giving every "frog" a '1'. On average I guess I took 2-3 points off for those entries.

Once again I am forced to endure the ignominy of violating an unwritten set of challenge expectations.

As I understand the scientific method, Observation is the first step in the recreation of any hypothesis. "Scientific Method requires that a hypothesis must be observable & recreatable to be considered fact."

Any step along the continuum qualifies for this challenge. My scores need to be upgraded again because once again I did not DNMC! I'm heavy on observation, but my photo is of good quality as always. This is how I do science. I observe for a very long time to get as many details as possible, then I find my solution.

If you're nailing the scores by two or three points on frog photos, does that make it a nail-in ribbate?

Is it just frogs or are there other images you feel do not fit the challenge?

HAHHAHAA MAN I really do love this place. SERIOUSLY!! I DO.
FYI this right here is what makes this site so addictive.

Haha, "frog" was just because there was a frog discussion above in this forum. Actually, my highest vote goes to a picture of an animal! But there are some "science things" in the picture as well, not just the animal.

Generally, I think shoehorning is fine, but only as long as your shoe-horn-idea is somewhat unique. I know the challenge said something about "subject of science", so I'm not disrespecting anyone because they submitted a pic of nature as it is, and I don't care if everyone else votes different than me.

In a way, I'm only downgrading these images because in the context of "science" the idea of taking a macro photo of a small animal is too common. If dozens of people would have submitted photos of say exploding test tubes you would have gotten tired of that idea just as well...

FYI, for everyone that reads this...

I do not give out 1's or 2's UNLESS the picture is completely shitty. I think I may have given about 5 1's the entire time I have been on this site so even if a submission DNMC I still grade on color, quality, subject, matter, how sexy she is, and some other stuff.

So even though I didn't think that a frog was science I still have those folk’s normal scores.

Edited: for my country spelling

To be fair, I only count 4 frogs among 222 images. There are also 4 bees.

We should have a "frog or bee" challenge, where you have to photograph a frog. Or a bee.

Im guessing that nature shots = Biology - "the science of life or living matter in all its forms and phenomena, esp. with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure, and behavior."

Elementary my dear Watson. Or shall I say that your proposals are scientifically outrageous. Anyhow, Jeeves??? Where the hell is Jeeves when I have a science question???

Well then if biology is related to science then school is related to both. That would make my entry of a KFC sign totally validâ€Â¦

BECAUSEâ€Â¦

I drive by it every morning when I go to school.

Can I get an AMEN???

You know I was also thinking... (I do way to much of this)

If God created earth then wouldn't ANYTHING I take a picture of be consisted of religion?

You know GOD made everything therefore it’s all related. Right.

Who needs challenge descriptions anyway? Lets just have about 10 free studies’s a month.

Yes, and double points for photos featuring a frog AND a bee :)

And DNMC wasps and/or toads!

Seriously, limiting the subject that much would be interesting. But just one animal at a time, please!

Well that would make this 100% a free study because you could rationalize any shot imaginable and tie it to a science regardless if it conveys that in the photograph. Not that I care since I'm not in this one and probably won't even vote. :P

"The challenge clearly states 'frog OR bee'. DNMC!!!"

We could name it "frog XOR bee"

Ain't it funny that science and religion went up at the same time? Oh no, religion won by 309 submission to 222. The number of the... frog maybe?

I hereby take back what I said about DNMC'ing animals in the science-challenge to stop the religion-guys from claiming them as creations of god! :)

Hrm, for geeks, "OR" actually means "AND/OR". XOR, on the other hand, means "exclusive OR" (which excludes the "AND"-part).
