Haven't watched a TV show regularly in about 3 years. I do enjoy watching movies on DVD. Having young kids makes it tough to be there for an 8 pm show, and I have other things I want to do besides taping and watching anyway.
This state of being is quite relaxing, but it wasn't a conscious choice. Just kind of stopped watching.
Every night after the kids are in bed (9-10 pm), it's a choice between shooting/editing pix, goofing off on DPC, and watching a movie. |
I have cable again now after about 3 years of no cable because the local cable internet provider forces me too!! lol. I have maybe watched 5 hours of actual TV programing in like the last 8 months...I do like the occational Discovery Ch. or History Ch. show but they repeat them so often I normally don't bother. Not really any reason for this other than I just got tired of everything on TV, I would flip through the shows a few times and find nothing of interest to me, after a while I just kinda quit flipping...

We haven't had tv for a few years now, no less cable! When we stay at hotels..I'm glued to the remote! LOL.. I do mute the commercials though. They are irritating. |

... well, congrats on getting your cable back, but if I could have DSL or Wi-Fi instead of dial-up, I would give up cable in a second! I rarely watch TV, anyway.

Dropped cable in December. Saving 70 bucks a month. I guess in '09 when they drop analog broadcasting I'll go no TV at all. But...... I've been watching a fair amount of TV over the net. Not bad quality either. I miss the Discovery channel and a few others. I'd love to get true al acarte (sic).
At 5 bucks a channel I could get by with 4 channels!

Some times as low as 35 minutes of program content per hour depending on time of day/night. It's so bad that following a story line is almost impossible.

That's a nice piece of L-glass a year, or a 5d in a couple of years. Kinda puts it into perspective, doesn't it?

I hadn't realised it was that much - I'm curious, how long is there between advert breaks, and how long are the breaks? |

Heh. I just had my first encounter with American programming in quite a few years.
We had to watch a 'cliffhanger' episode of Grey's Anatomy in a short Spanish Media class that sits in a one hour class slot on Fridays.
Wow. After the first 15 seconds, I turned to the classmate next to me and said 'and this is why I didn't have a TV in Canada'. Wow. What the "heck"?
Sure it was good to discuss afterwards, but *OUCH*. Setting new standards in predictability, overblown emotionality relabeled as "drama" and nonsensical sexual content.
I think if I had paid to watch that, I'd probably want to go and take a shower afterwards to try and get rid of that 'violated' feeling... |

Do you live on reservation land? I see stations in range but the antennas I think would not be trivial. How far do you live from the intersection of State and Superior? Man that looks like a neat place to live. I'd freeze to death in the winter. ;)
