I̢۪m look for some recommendations. I love my Mini Maglight, but I found out recently that its not that bright when your walking around in the woods in the middle of the night. I̢۪d still like it to be smaller in size and it must use normal batteries. LED would be nice too. Its hard to compare them in the store. If anyone has some thoughts or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

They make Zenon flash lights.
They take a battery called 123, most companies make them now.
It is a high intensity beam, but it can burn through the lens of the housing if left on too long, it can get warm to the touch if left on too long, and the life span of the batteries are not great.
The cost between $50 for low end models all the way up to $200 for the higher end models.
You can find them at army surplus stores, paint ball/air soft stores, maybe hardware stores, maybe Walmart.

any headlamp would work, mine takes a aaa battery. you get free hands that way. (mine also shines a red light when you need to see, but dont want it too bright) headlamp

I myself own about 10 different higher end LED flashlights and here are my recommendations.
My favorite utility light is a Streamlight 4AA, 7 LED polymer light

My favorite tactical light is the INOVA T1. It takes a CR123 battery but that is not a problem. Just buy a 12 pack from Surefire.

INOVA also makes a great utility light called the X5. It takes 2 CR123 batteries also. Actually you are going to find out that most higher quality flashlight use CR123 batteries and that is a good thing, trust me lithium rocks.
I also use an LED conversion on my MiniMag 2AA flashlight and that works well and lasts a long time. But it is not very bright and it not nearly as good a light as the Streamlight.

| If you are going to be wandering around in the woods you might want to get one of the new emergency flashlights which contain a little generator unit -- you can shake it back and forth to recharge the battery. Here is one. If you back up a level at that site you'll see several other candidates as well ... the same company makes emergency radios and stuff too ... |

I have a Streamlight Stinger flashlight and I love it. When I bought it, it was the brightest flashlight for its size in the world. Doesn't take conventional batteries but they do last for an hour or more of continuous use and also take recharable batteries (extras are $27 each). They are built like tanks and are generally made for police and military use. Not cheap at just about $70-80 for the light, battery, and charger. Oh and you can get a DC charger that fits into the lighter socket in your car as well.

I'd recommend getting a good headlamp. Coast makes some great LED flashlights. I have the Coast powerchip headlamp. It's their brightest headlamp. Check it out.

Anything from SureFire will serve you very well.
I have the Exec Defender it is small bullet proof and has four times the light of a big two D-cell flashlight. |

a) During hunting season you should be wearing your florescent orange gear.
b) WTF is wrong with those people. Don't they know animals don't carry lights? If they're smart enough to carry a light don't the animals deserve to live?

If the animals are smart enough to carry lights, I think it's best to shoot them first, Since it's only a matter of time until they figure out how to carry firearms in addition to the flashlight. |

I use a flashlight every single day here at work, and have done so for the last 25+ years. I've used LED's, Maglights, this and that, and have never found any flashlight as bright, nor as durable and long-lasting as the Streamlight Stinger. Can be charged from a car adapter and from a wall-mounted one. I have two of them in case I forgot to charge one and it runs down on me. They aren't cheap, but built like nothing I have ever had before, virtually indestructible and not one glitch in 2 years of ownership. I have only replaced each flashlight's bulb once so far.
