Heading there Wednesday the 27th through July 1st - staying in a house on Pebble Beach/Spanish Bay resort. I will be golfing 1/2 of each day, then roaming with my camera with no commitments - What must I see/do? Anything out of the ordinary you'd recommend?
Anyone in that area up for an afternoon shoot? |

Point Lobos State Reserve is one of the most-photographed pieces of shoreline in the US. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is supposed to be great, but I haven't made it there myself. When I was very young, I lived on the dunes near Asilomar beach facing the ocean in Pacific Grove; the conference center was designed by Julia Morgan, probably the foremost female architect in US history.

Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, whole bunch of old Stienbech stuff around there. Head over to Carmel eat at Clint Eastwood joint... (Hog's Breath Inn), there's a cool mission.
You will probably run into the in-laws on the golf course. They frequent that a lot. They are also docents for Point Lobos state park and Garland Park in Carmel Valley... Speaking of Point Lobos if you go to that park don't miss "The Whaler's Cabin" it and the tree next to it make for some wicked black and whites.
ED: If you are really adventurous you could head over to my old stomping grounds, Aptos/Santa Cruz... Steamers for some wicked surf shots, Henry Cowell Redwoods and a bunch of tree hugging hippie type stuff.

If you head north past Santa Cruz you also get to Año Nuevo State Reserve.
Farther to the south past Pt. Lobos is the Big Sur area ...

You'll be real close to the Lone Cypress on 17-mile Drive.

Thanks!
I definitely will head south after golf one or two days for Pt. Lobos and Big Sur. Off to buy more memory cards... |

Are you playing Pebble and SB? Have fun and stay out of the iceplant!

Yep, I'm playing Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay and Poppy Hills - assuming I am not invited out on Cypress Point - no contacts yet, but I'm working on it. Know any members there? :-)
Any other course I should substitute for Poppy Hills? This is my first trip to the area. |
