I'm just thrilled. I got this one kind of by accident.

You'll remember this for years to come.
Oh...and that's a very nice picture of that bird, too.

I got my first hummer by accident, she just kind of slipped.
In reality awesome shot, one wing is still the other is almost. Back at my old house I could have tried but now I see none of them. |

I apologize for the thread hijack. Given my level of maturity or lack of, it really couldn't be helped.
Seriously, a very nice hummingbird shot. There are none where I live but based the ones I've seen on vacation they must be hard to shoot? Fast little buggers...aren't they?

I just managed to snag my first decent one that wasn't sitting still today.
Tasking on an AF lens when at near minimum focus distance at 300mm.

Wish it was with a real flower, not a plastic hummingbird feeder. |

Real or plastic, it's still a very nice hummer.

These are amazing. I'd love to know how much waiting is involved to get shots like these.
I have all the "right" flowers and feeders, etc, in my yard, and I almost never see the hummingbirds at them! |

Check this:
Shot in Cloudcroft NM a couple of years ago. They were almost so thick you have to beat them off with a broom. The whole area was humming and trilling with their wing-beats.
Fromac, all of my shots were at a couple of locations in New Mexico that were especially fertile with the little buggers. For my four shots above, I just pulled a chair up to within about 15 feed of the feeder and waited. The little guy came back about every 10 minutes like clockwork!
