Hi There,

I just got my IBM 1GB Microdrive today and there is something that is really getting to my nerves about it:

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT NOISE COMING FROM IT WHEN YOU GENTLY SHAKE IT????

It sounds like a loose screw? Any other owners could comment on it please. Should I send it back to the store?

Many thanks for your help,

Luis

my guess would that's the arm for the read/write head moving back and forth. If it works, then I wouldn't take it back.

If it's not working, then probably the disk itself broke and that's the shattered pieces you hear moving around inside.

The drive is working fine Mbardeen, the noise is when you hold the drive in your hand and move it from one side to the other quickly. A rattling sound.

yeah. that's the read/write head on the drive then. Nothing to worry about.
