Sports fans are forgiving (if the team is winning).

Look at Kobe Bryant...he lost all his sponsorships, all promotion deals, not sure if he got suspended, never was proven innocent (settled out of court) and came back and now he has all of his sponsorships back and is a vital part of his team.

You will likely see a similar situation with Vick.

In another arena - Imus, lost all his sponsors, got fired, now he is going to get right back on the radio again and all will be forgotten.

I wonder if Michael AKA Con Vick't would have liked being shocked each time he had a bad game.

He will most likely get 18 months and serve 12 with good time. Afterwards He has to get his job back. And the way it looks right now. Nobody wants him. Atlanta will be releasing him in a few weeks if not sooner. The guy totally ruined a very sweet deal. He should be jailed just for being a supreme idiot.

With Imus and Bonds some people don't think what they did was wrong. With Kobe people can justify it by saying she consented at the time. Their cases have grey areas.

With Vick, we know he did it, no doubt, and very few will say what he did was no big deal.

Maybe the browns will sign him? (football fan joke)

Saw on the news where people were donating their Vick jerseys to the animal shelter for use as dog bedding. I love it!

edit again after reading a different story;
welcome him back with open arms???

"White said the Falcons quarterback made a mistake and should be allowed to prove he has learned from that mistake."

A MISTAKE???!!! No, a mistake would have been having his dog die because, for example, he'd left it on too long a leash, it had tried to jump the fence, and got hung up and strangled.

What he did was NOT a mistake! It was a long series of conscious choices. It was the same kind of behaviour that, when seen in children, is a HUGE warning flag for future sociopathic behaviour, including serial/mass murder!

White, from his further comments, doesn't even believe Vick did anything he's accused of. Hey, if he's that naive, maybe we should all be preparing our Nigerian scam mail...

I heard an interesting sound bite yesterday from Stefan Marberry (sp - way butchered):

(Paraphrased)- People go out and kill deers (yes he said deers) every day and its ok, from what I understand is that dog fighting is a sport I guess. /paraphrase

So on one level, the guy does have a point - people think its ok to go out and shoot other animals for sport, but dogs have gotten an elevated position in society, therefore somehow its bad.

But the flipside is - hunters dont torture animals, they just kill them dead.

Actually, he doesn't have a point. Many people don't like deer hunting either but the BIG difference is it's legal! Also, nobody has deer as pets so you don't have that close attachment like people have with dogs. I can see where this is leading up to with comments from Marbury (i.e. race card).

Only at certain times . . .and even during "deer season" the does can only be killed on (a very few) certain days.

You also need a hunting license and gun permit. I'm not sure I get your point.

This may come as a shock to some, but there are still plenty of people that go hunting to feed their families.

It must also be borne in mind that none of the deer are trained to become killers, simply for the enjoyment of the "sporting" community, and simply killed because they are not good enough to compete with the elite.

Lastly, while I no longer hunt, I can assure you that the deer population where I live is past being a nuisance and is increasingly the cause of traffic mishaps. If we consider the statistics in the USA on the number of accidents involving deer, perhaps we should outlaw driving as that seems to kill a truckload of innocent deer. :O)

Sorry got called away before I could finish.

Even though deer hunting is sometimes "legal," to equate deer hunting and dog fighting is a bit "out there." There are no similarities, and it is a bad analogy.

(Next time I'll finish before hitting "post")

edited to fix my horrendous grammar

I wasn't the one making that analogy.

"I can see where this is leading up to with comments from Marbury (i.e. race card)."

Apparently there is already a group that is trying to get black athletes to go on strike.

I haven't been following the Vick story at all, but I have read through this thread and it gave me a brilliant idea!

*burp*.... I think I'm gonna be sick....

"'I take full responsibility for my actions,' Vick said. 'Not for one second will I sit right here and point the finger and try to blame anybody else for my actions or what I've done. I'm totally responsible and those things just didn't have to happen.'

He said, 'Through this situation I've found Jesus.'"
