Hey Everyone,

I am on vacation next week and am looking for things to go and do that include photography. If you have any ideas for me, post them here. I would love to see some of thestuff you can come up with and maybe I can do some of the things reccomended in this thread.

Where are you going to be in NE? It is a reasonably big area and more details, even if it is only the states you are going to be in - Vermont, NH, Mass, Maine, Connecticut, RI will help us give you some great ideas. NE is a great location for many things, including photography - mountains, great coastlines, great old buildings, nature, cities, etc - and great for many things to see and do

I am located close to Manchester, NH.... So basically I am right in the middle of NH... I am willing to travel a few hours for photos. I plan on going to the VINS raptor center in Queechee, VT sometime in the week but really am looking for more things to shoot. I have a real itchy photo finger :)

Here is something I've always wanted to do in New England.

Put 2 pieces of thick baloney in your left shoe. Put on a red striped shirt and a green hat. Stick a Pez dispenser on your camera's hot shoe. Go wander around city/town/village, take shots of Ice Cream joints and people candids, but only if they are in groups of 3 or 5 people. Special bonus if you can get 3 people IN an ice cream joint.
....ahhhh, someday.....

If you get to Boston, check out the Christian Science mother church and the Christian Science monitor.

The church is really cool. Good for pics, plus you're in downtown Boston so there's a lot to do and see. The Christian Science Monitor is a Pulitzer prize winning newspaper. There is a huge globe in the middle made of stained glass. You walk into the globe and look from the inside out at the world with the political divisions between the world wars. some cool acustics inside as well. Plus there should be a display of some of the award winning photographs taken by their staff photographers. While it is church supported, the Monitor is well a well respected newspaper throughout the jounalistic community.

I am not a member of the church nor do I subscribe to their teachings. I also no not live in Boston, but the church and the newspaper are well worth the time to visit.

There's a small photo gallery of the Mapparium on their website. Very cool place. I used to work in fulfillment for the Monitor. The church at night is pretty impressive and there's a cool reflecting pool in front. You can visit my old apartment on the street behind it too but that's not as photogenic. ;)

If you want to have a little fun with the locals. Continue to ask them with a very concerned look, What happened to Old England? I have a friends who's parents live in NE He goes out there a couple of times a year and always comes back with stories and photos of various different things he did or seen. You shouldn't have much trouble finding something fun to do.

The city of Boston is an amazing place to photograph. You could walk to fenway park and photograph Red Sox fans. The state street stop will get you to the heart of Boston with opportunities to take pictures of people trying to buy cheap fruits/vegetables from haymarket (on friday/saturdays only) or you could just walk a few minutes to take pictures of the world war 2 memorial in glass. You can walk for a few minutes south to get to park street and take pictures of the state house (very beautiful at night), the park with ducks and some boats are within walking distance. Of course the Freedom Trail would be an option. So basically you get the gist.

If you want to travel about an hour and half away from boston, you could visit Cape Cod. Cape Cod has one of the best beaches in NE. Speaking of Beaches Ipswich has also good beaches. Ipswich would be north of boston and very close to NH.

This very weekend 24th, 25th & 26th in Boston is a great opportunity to photograph a big cultural event. The North End(The Italian section) is having their annual St. Anthony's festival. They parade around a statue of St. Anthony for like 10hrs which gets covered in donated money by the end of the evening and there is a tons of vendors, food, music and many great subjects to photograph. If you're into that sort of documentary/photo journalistic type work check it out.

I just photographed the Fisherman's feast last weekend and it was pretty amazing.
