Im thinking about buy a Canon EOS Rebel from a US site(or ebay), anyone knows how much tax and duty I have to pay?
GST + PST + DUTY ? 15% + ?? Im from Ontario, Canada. |

You will pay your provincial tax. No duties will be charged on digital cameras. I have ordered a bunch of lenses from e-bay and I never had to pay duty. What you might have to pay is a brokerage fee. Fed EX or Purelator might charge up to $100 (maybe more) for the paperwork to cross the border. Use US Parcel Service if possible, sinc the brokerage fee will be cheaper.
One last consideration: if you buy a US Canon, Canon Canada will likely not honour your warranty. You'll have to send it to Canon USA for repairs (if ever it needs repairs), and that will cost you more in shipping.
At $1500 Canadian as opposed to $1000 US ($1300 canadian equivalent), you might be better off buying local. You'll only pay $200 more. Don't forget that you don't pay for shipping with a local purchase. Food for thought.

Thank you Jacko, the lowest price I found on US sites is $1517 CAD shipped and tax included. Local Futureshop offers $1724 CAD tax included. Thanks for your advise. |
