Hi Everybody,

This is my first post on this forum. I have been reading your posts for quite a while already. I believe dpchallenge developed strong knowledgeable community here.

I would like you to judge my photo which I have taken few weeks ago in Manchester Mardi Gras. I have used Canon 5D with Sigma 150mm Lens.

I think this is one of my best pics taken there. Please, share your opinions, which will help me to improve my photography further.

I have only slightly cropped it and resized for the web. No other post-processing was done.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Oliver Bross

Nice DOF, nice focus and exposure... I just wish you would have caught more of the sign, maybe by taking a few steps back this would have had more impact.

Great that you caught the facial detail in the shot too.

I like it without the extra info on the sign, actually! coupled with the facial expression, the viewer is left wondering if the sign is for or against. adds some intrigue.

I like the tight crop, too. Not seeing the rest of the sign gives the viewer something to think about and something to try to figure out. The expression on the face is great. And as Tez said, nice DOF, nice focus and exposure.

Nice image, but the sign being cut off really effects how you perceive it. Is this someone for gay rights or against it?

I like an image that makes me think, and this one does that. Nice exposure as well.

Thank you guys for all your comments.

To be honest with you, I have cropped only left hand side of the pic, I haven't cropped anything from the sign the guy was holding.

I just loved his look,he was certainly different than everybody around him. He didn't smile, he didn't say anything. He saw me as I was going to take a picture of him and stopped for few seconds, during which I was able to push the shutter few times and that was it. He walked away.

I am personally happy with the sign, yes, you are not able to see what else was on it, but at least it makes you think. I like pictures which makes you think.

Also, I am pleased with the Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro I have bought only recently. For the money you spend you get excellent lens, not only usable for macro but also good enough for the portraits.

Thank you everybody.

I just went through the pictures taken on Mardi Gras in Manchester and found one which will give you want you wanted to know - what does the sign say.

All together I have taken only 5 pics of the guy. Now you know there of them.

I hope you like them.

I really like the photo.

A quick pass with the Unsharp Mask (USM) filter would crisp it up a bit.

the bottom one is a great shot! I can see that as labour propaganda material (the guy is wearing blue=tory).

Actually, I agree with you, little USM won't hurt. Here are the results:

By the way, when I have pulled the original from Digicam, I have realized, that I didn't cropped it at all, all what I have done now is changed the size and added a little bit of USM.

Hope you like it more.
