Hey, thanks for this challenge, EstimatedEyes, we should do this again, mid October, when fall colors are at thier peek(here, anyway). Look forward to commenting on all the pics.

Thanks! I'd like to set these up as a monthly challenge, and already have some plans for another one in mid-October, along with a few "special" rules to throw in to the mix to keep it fresh. Stay tuned for more details towards the end of the week, after we see the rest of the images from this month!

I almost didn't get any because I worked all day today. I managed though.

I did not have as much time as I thought I would so I ran out side around the area to do my thing. This was fun. It gave me a chance to put in photos that would get hammered in a challenge. Look forward to the next one!

These two were just experiments - I had hoped to get something for silhouette. Did not happen lol.

The next three were taken in a walking trail nearby.

Up at dawn. Farm house down the road that I wish was mine.

At a second farm, I met a neighbor. His St Bernard jumped the fence and was doing some rabbit hunting.

Before the dog got out, I got this silo shot.

Walked some one mile further, cut down the railroad tracks (was hoping a train would pass by) and onto the state route. Too many cars so I cut across the golf course heading back home.

One of my neighbors lives next to the third tee. No explanation needed! Obviously she was having some trouble with the golfers. My home is diagonally east of hers by the eight hole. I feel her pain!

Got home very cold and tired. Walked approximately three and a half miles. Ate a very big breakfast and fell asleep on the couch. Not use to this. But a fall walk-about sounds great.

I am really sorry I did not get a chance to shoot today, but I will still participate by commenting on the other photos tomorrow.

Got out of work at 5:15.
This is the back of the Rainbow building as seen from the parking lot.

Walked the pedestrian and bike path built on the old RR lines which were sunk below road level about 1910.

This overpass is getting very old. Minneapolis bridges don't have a god reputation at the moment.
I came back to the Lake Street near the Calhoun Building and its great old sign.

I was ready to catch a bus home but the street was all torn up and buses were detoured so I kept walking. Saw a storage lot full of fire hydrants waiting for installation.

Never seen them stored like this before. Just before the first functioning bus stop I found a house with great yard art.
.
I was planning to to keep shooting when I got off the bus but I had too much fun in Uptown and was out of light.

This was great fun. Lets do it again before it gets too cold for the cameras.

I'm just going to go ahead and post these this evening mainly because I have to make myself get up at 3:00am tomorrow to try to take my photo for DejaVu (UGH!), then I'll have to edit that, then I'll have to sleep. After a little nap, I can come back here and comment some. :)

One thing I've learned from this little side challenge is that I don't much like walking around my neighborhood too much. I thought this would be great because we've just moved here and it would be cool to see what's around in walking distance. Well let me tell you, there's not much worth taking pictures of. There are, on the other hand, a whole lotta dogs, dogs that like to bark at people walking by. Now I know how people feel when they walk past our house. :)

Anyhoo, this is what I could make of it. Probably would have been a bit more interesting if I had ventured farther, but we spent the whole day walking around the Oregon zoo and I wasn't up for that much more walking. :)

I started out walking a few blocks to the slough. Thought I might find some cool birds or something. Nope, no birds. So guess what, you get flowers (weeds, whatever....)

But there was a cute little cat hanging out down there. He was probably also looking for birds but instead he got me, poking into his business. I don't think he/she liked me very much.

Then I came to the railroad tracks. We live in a mill town and there are trains going through all day long. We don't here them much from our house though.

Lastly, we have a stack of pallets that were behind the Fred Meyers store. I just liked all the textures.

I took some others after that but they were mostly just flowers and stuff. I wasn't brave enough to point my camera and anybody's house although I was tempted to shoot a few mailboxes. People around here use some crazy things to make mail box posts out of. :)

Wow...this sounds like it would be a ton of fun... too bad I didn't see the thread until 12:30 on the 16th. I'll try and get some time to comment on the photos later on today. But please... if something like this comes again...please someone...anyone... everyone (chuckle) email me. This sounds too good to miss.
I love the way some of you have posted more as a documentary kinda of photojournal. That could be a fun way to have a short side challenge too!!!
I think I am gonna go kick myself in the butt for missing this!!! See ya...ouch..take care ... ouch!!

Ok woke to 30 Mph winds and rain lots of rain, waited a few hours but no letup so found a plastic bag put camera in it, don jacket and out I went.
I live outside what passes for a city here, rural setting so first stop
boat slip at the stream 1/4 mile up from my house. Now there are eagles,
Osprey, ducks, birds, live here but nothing with the weather we were having. So first shot:

Well off I go the opposite direction, rain now starts to pour, 1/4 mile the other way to the bridge and the second shot, you can see the rain hammering the water in this one.

So I continue on up the road cars going by looking at me like I am nuts
with this odd shaped plastic bag to my face standing in the rain, pointing
at this.
Third shot:

Ok have to say at this point I am wet, cold and thinking crap there is nothing that is any good for a picture, another 1/4 mile latter I spot
something I have driven by for years and think this might work and look cool.
Fourth shot: I like It.

So turn and head for home, actually have about 20 shots and think I am wet enough reach the house before mine and see a living creature on their front step, so going into stealth mode I sneak up and get a shot.

Fifth shot: got to within about 6 feet of him think it was the plastic
bag over my face, he figured I was to stupid to be a threat.

Home and get car and go get coffee, it was fun but next time sun will be nice.

I think this would be a great weekend challenge for all seasons.
A good reason to get us out of our computer chairs and get walking!
I only went one direction. I could could go several weekends with a whole new direction.

The morning promised to be a lovely chilly day but started to cloud over, I took the umbrella just in case. I went down to my favorite flower spot. The Ozzie Smith ballpark just a block away. The butterflies were out, even though most of the flowers were all dried up. My husband decided he would join me and bring his dog along.

Here is my entry.

This shot was taken down the street from my house - maybe a couple of hundred yards walk. A spring fed stream down the street was my original destination, but I was out too early, the light was low, and I forgot my tripod. The family was heading out for the day, so I would not be able to get anything if I didn't go then...

This maple tree was very accomodating to change its leaves early, so here we go...

some nice work here - it is fun to see where people work and live and how they see it

I made about 25 comments and will try and get back for a few more. I will try and make at least one comment for each person that puts in a shot, but I probably won't get to every photo that people put in...

I am living 10 km away from the center of Athens ,but is like being in the country side, that's the reason i like to live here.
Around my home there are a lot of flowers ,birds ,insects, trees and only a few people.
We have a very interesting challenge here....

Ok,, So I wake up early not because I was really excited to go out and take pictures, but because the damn dog somehow found out I had to take pictures for this challenge and he was up at 6:00 am all ready to go.

I put the leash on him and we head out. First thing I see is the great looking sky over the neighbor's house.
[thumb]587528[/thumb]
Then as we walk I see some bamboo leaves hanging on to the morning dew (I think it was dew)...

I click and move on when I hear some chimes in the wind.
[thumb]587527[/thumb]
Loud little buggers made the beagle bark. Those of you who know beagles are fully aware what that loud howl can do to a neighborhood really early in the morning, so I click and pull on the leash to head back home. I think I got 3 houses down when I was already heading back home giving the dog a good talking to about waking up the neighbors so early on a saturday. This is him paying attention.
