Because they have forgotten how fun it is to just play sometimes.

Hey, I'm not against the idea :)

The Toronto Camera Club runs an annual event whereby participants are given a roll of film and told to shoot over a one week period. The film is developed by a one-hour lab and then an image is submitted for judging. All in all a great deal of fun.

I think the intent was to allow rotating 90º to allow for both portrait and landscape orientation shots and not to allow "arbitrary rotation" to fix a crooked horizon. |

That sounds like a great idea. I am all for a challenge with those rules. However please make it an open challenge so I can participate!!

I think it's a great idea, every few months. It's a different kind of challenge.

Yeah, me too kaycee.... MOST of my images score low due to the fact that I don't fix anything.... but oh well. :) |

I think this would be fantastic.
In fact, I would simply make a third "Challenge Rules" along with "Basic Editing" and "Advanced Editing" editing rules.
Limit the editing to only rotation to fix landscape/portrait issues.
Photo journalism comes alive in this category.

Out-of-camera includes raw images? There's a number of parameters that can be adjusted when converting from raw to jpeg. Those that cannot capture in raw mode may be at a slight disadvantage. |

Anybody shooting "raw" would have to "develop" their picture "as shoot"; i.e., no exposure, white balance, etc. adjustments in the raw conversion software; just the "as shot" settings. |

Not that I think this is a bad idea, but it seems like people with "prosumer" cameras like the Minolta A1 would have a bit of an advantage. Older digicams don't have great exposure control or in-camera picture enhancement. DSLRs are soft and not as saturated by design. At least some degree of editing levels the field. |

There is already a "Basic Editing" challenge to cover this. |

I think this is a great idea.
And for a guy like me, who's still starting out, I'll get some great examples of composition... |

Or they could always go mad and shoot in JPEG mode.

WooHoo!!! I am for this 100% Like Kaycee, I tend to suffer from the "straight from the camera" syndrome, and my scores show it. But as I said before, I am proud of what I do with my camera! I couldn't be more proud of Aura.... which was only despeckled (due to a lightened pixel) but ..... anyway.... I am babbling.
I am up for a straight from the camera challenge.... nothing but resizing.... that's it! :) I think this would be a good challenge for those who depend on PS to tidy up their images. :)

Or why not narrow this one down even further and call it Your Street
